The Holocaust is usually included in the study of WWII in high school U. S. history classes. There is not nearly enough time to go back to earlier origins of the problems of ethnic minorities in Europe.

Reading something does not mean you are elevating it to the level of better works. Many colleges require students to read Marx because it was an influential ideology at one time but they don't try to elevate it to the level of real economics or sociology.
