Default Top lawyers won’t touch Trump with a ‘1,000-foot pole’ as legal crises escalate

It appears that Donald Trump has become radioactive.

Donald Trump is facing intensifying legal pressure, but he's been unable to attract the type of high-quality lawyers that would typically represent a former president in high-stakes cases, because of Trump's reputation for non-payment of legal fees, and because Trump's previous lawyers have suffered damage their reputations.

I would represent him with a 1,000,000 non-refundable retainer and an opt out clause.

In the case of Trump, who has stiffed building contractors, and the law firms that represented him; I would say that if someone got a million of Trump's money and ran with it; that would serve Trump right.

I hear what you are saying. But if you are getting a $1,000,000 retainer from anybody with even half of a brain the "opt out" option is not going to fly.

Methinks the law is catching up with Trump and his decades of illegalities. The Jan. 6 commission is in full throttle. NY DA has Trump's taxes. Trump's former press secretary has written a tell-all book of Trump's bad behavior. All we need is one of Trump's minions to sing like a canary and Trump is fucked. He may be already fucked. He knows he's going down and going down hard. And there's nothing he or his flock can do about it.

These next few months are going to be fun to watch as Trump gets taken down again and again and hard.

    I'm bringing popcorn.

Judge Juan M. Merchan wrote that Trump “appears to take the position that his situation and this case are unique and that the pre-trial publicity will never subside. However, this view does not align with reality.”

If you think that Trump is trust worthy, then you go and you do some work for him, and see if he pays you.

I would ask for my money up front, as well, Trump is known for stiffing his lawyers.

No, I would do the work. I just wouldn't let him get away with deciding I did a bad job, and refusing to pay me. And I would not let him tell me how to do my job.

That would make you a bad lawyer, it is the client's life, the client has the final say.
The bottom line is that conservatives cant admit to themselves the Evil they have allowed to romp on their watch.

    This is going to hurt.

There is a balance there, you cant do unethical things just because your client demands it.

The "opt out" clause tells me you had no plans to do the work. I hear what you are saying and the pay up front is a good idea, it would just be criminally stupid to give an attorney that much money non-refundable and also giving an opt out clause when you didn't bother to define the opt out clause.

Demand money up front, demand control... But the right to just leave when you want with an "opt out" clause... not so much. Also, it is his right to help in his own defense. The assumption that they should just sit back and do what you say without question is problematic in legal ethics.

It is unlikely I will ever need a defense attorney, but I would be very careful if I were hiring one as a former President of the USA. This day and age politics have become so entrenched that most folks cannot extricate their jersey color from every action they take.
