Will La Palma Volcanic Eruption Cause Mega-Tsunami on U.S. East Coast? No, Officials Say

"After investigating the effect of the volcano's eruptions in 1971 and 1949, the authors believed that the entire structure of the volcano could be comprised in the event of a further eruption.

The authors believed that what they termed as the "catastrophic failure of its west flank" would drop between 150 and 500 km³ of rock into the sea, which could result in tsunami waves that could transit the entire Atlantic ocean. They said that these waves could arrive at the Eastern Coast of the U.S. with a height of between around 33 and 82 feet."

This isn't political yet, butt: Marxists love crisis and love ta scare people to gain more gubment power n' limit personal Liberty.

Newsweek downplays the risk, butt: La Palma has one of the steepest flanks of any volcano in the world. The 1949 eruption created a massive crack in the mountain, and it really is dangerous.

Landslides have always caused the largest tsunamis on this planet, (short of a direct hit in the ocean by a large asteroid), one up in Alaska not far from Anchorage, caused a very large wave in fairly recent history.

So if ya live near the right coast, Florida n' such, be on yer toes.

    My overpriced $0.02.

The soonommy would have 4,000 miles to hit america. They travel hundreds of miles per hour so we may only get 10-20 hours of warning. It could cause trillions of dollars in damage.

Giant 1,000-foot-high tsunamis seen as a threat to Hawaii

"There are at least 15 giant landslides that have slid off the Hawaiian Islands in the past 4 million years, with the most recent happening only 100,000 years ago, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. One block of rock that slid off Oahu is the size of Manhattan."

    https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna50106001

Landslides from volcano collapse can be a very big problem.

Tsunamis have happened many times on the west coast and Hawaii. https://www.worlddata.info/america/usa/tsunamis.php There are some that came much earlier that were a lot larger. If one of those hits the west coast it would be catastrophic. I saw a program saying Oregon is particularly vulnerable.

The East Coast also has vulnerabilities from Tsunamis. https://www.livescience.com/24813-ea...-tsunamis.html A slippage on the continental shelf could create one. It can also be hit by a severe tsunami from far away countries. Tsunamis can impact many countries.

I saw all that lava spill into a swimming pool. That's going to be hard to clean.
