Default Harriet Tubman Highway sign unveiled, marking replacements around South Florida

MIAMI — Harriet Tubman Highway finally saw the light of day in South Florida on Saturday after years of local voices calling for the removal of the name Dixie Highway, one of the state’s most well-known roads.

The American hero’s name written in strong lettering on a freshly planted sign marked a turning page in history for communities of color and a lesson to be reminded of what Tubman fought hard against, speakers told the crowd.

“We can not forget slavery,” Florida State Rep. Dotie Joseph said. “We can not forget the ramifications of it.”

The move to honor Tubman as the new name of Dixie Highway began about two years ago with a question from a then-high school sophomore to her activist grandfather.

“Dixie Highway was named for the Dixie states ... . The Dixie states seceded from the Union because they wanted to continue the inhumane institution of slavery.”

What is the status of the $20?

I know trump didn't like his "trail of tears" hero being replaced by a black.

Has President Biden corrected that error yet? So many errors of trump regime to fix I just hope it isn't forgotten.

People like hanging on to misery. Only pack their brains with outdated problems of another era. It'll still be Dixie Hwy to Floridians.
Many highways down here have 2 or 3 names or route numbers attached to them. No big deal. People can call'em what they want.
Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

Yea, whatever... Elizabeth Jennings Graham won't get that sort of thing because she was successful, from an upper middle class family, and not someone the Left could celebrate as a result...

She single handedly got public transit in New York City prior to the Civil War desegregated. Interestingly, her lawyer in this would later be a US president, Chester A. Arthur. But don't expect a successful, self-made Black to be celebrated by the Left.

Wonderful, which is a start and to check back when Harriet's name is officially erected and to dispense of the Dixie highway name that represents ugly memories in U.S. history. With DeSatan, the Medicare Jack the Ripper Rick Scott and other of anti vax and anti mask repuke swine there, it remains to be seen that this type of Justice happens.

It is good, not just because it honors a great American hero, but also because it makes the alt right cry.
