Poor people have far less disposable income. They spend almost all their money on basic necessities like food and shelter. Raising taxes on they might throw them in the streets. We already have millions of Americans who have food fears. They are eating poorly and live in quiet desperation. They have no political power, so the comfortable are free to hate them.
America blames people for their life circumstances. The strongest indicator of future wealth is the income strata you were born into. The only reason Trump has money is he was born into it.
