we have to extrapolate on our experiences to get a notion of what may be real.

At that point, it's all reduced to what we "believe,"
that inevitably causes problems,
so essentially, we're fucked.

Perhaps its best to concentrate on self-indulgence to the extent that we can provide it for ourselves
and keep "thinking" out of the equation altogether.

As Americans in particular,

My first job was as a temp (for a week) in a country doctor's office while the regular person was out for vacation. I was 18. One day the doc came in and was telling the staff how old Mr. Somebody had passed away the night before from a heart attack. Everyone was suitably shocked because apparently he had been pretty healthy, and was a staff favorite too. Someone asked what happened. The doc said old Mr. Somebody was in bed with "one of his girlfriends" and "died with his boots on." They all howled with laughter, while I sat there wondering why anyone would wear boots in bed.
