Default Jon Stewart Admits Why He Was Wrong About Donald Trump

Jon Stewart admitted the mistake he made when Donald Trump first announced his candidacy for president in 2015.

Back then, the then-host of “The Daily Show” figured the reality TV personality was a comedic “gift from heaven.”

But in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday, Stewart said he misjudged, failing to consider that Trump’s “certainty, his ridiculousness, his shamelessness is what made him dangerous.”

the most dangerous figures are the ones that seem comic and absurd,” Stewart added. “Saddam Hussein seems absurd. Muammar Gaddafi would stand in a kaftan and rant like a madman.”

remember when Obama ridiculed the criminal at the WH correspondents dinner?..........just the thought of him being president was theater of the absurd, a bad joke......obviously misunderestimated the stupidity of almost half the electorate

Stewart is right. Hitler and his goose-stepping minions were comic figures to most Brits (maybe not to the French) before the Rhineland was remilitarized in 1936. After that, war was a real possibility.

Cool! Jon Stewart is gonna have a new show!

I get it. I laughed right along with Jon when Trump announced. I made the same mistake. I had no idea the transformation in image that Trump had undergone with his reality TV show. He was generally seen as a bumbling spoiled rich loser buffoon by most people, prior to the TV show (or so I thought.) I would never watch his show. I didn't. But I failed to realize that millions of Americans did watch his show and they thought he was great. Too bad for America. The show was made up nonsense, but so many 'bought in' that he got elected. And all that made up nonsense moved right into the WH. A tragedy for America that lingers on with each lie Trump tells. The Big Lie is just phenomenal. I am amazed at how many believe it. Very sad.

My words during the primary season to the 2016 election:

No way that there are enough deeply stupid people in the Republican Party to have Trump become a candidate for them.

    I was wrong.

Then, during the general election campaign, I wrote:

No way that there are close to enough deeply stupid people in the American electorate to have Trump become president.

    I was wrong there also.

    It happens.
ON HIS WORST DAY, JOE BIDEN IS A BETTER PRESIDENT THAN TRUMP WAS ON HIS BEST DAY!

There is something to be said for a parliamentary system with a non-executive head of state. A British Trump would be impossible!

How true. Few rational ppl believed that the egotistical bankrupt TV game show host had a serious chance of winning. Boy, did we underestimate both the power of bullshit, and the intelligence level of a good lot of the citizens.

I see your excellent post got the pEarl impotent groan of approval. lol

    Careful.

That's what millions of Americans thought before Trump.
