Default U.S. to hold $130 mln of Egypt's military aid over human rights

WASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - The Biden administration will withhold $130 million worth of military aid to Egypt until Cairo takes specific steps related to human rights, a State Department spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken's move is a break with his predecessors' policy of overriding a congressional check on military aid to Egypt. In the past, an exception was granted to free up Foreign Military Financing for Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's government, worth $300 million this fiscal year, on the basis that it was in the interest of U.S. national security.

"Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood senior member, is no longer the president of Egypt. Morsi's one-year reign was cut short, after massive protests across Egypt calling for him to resign started on June 30.

Head of the Egyptian Armed Forces General Abdel Fattah Al Sisi said in an announcement broadcast live minutes ago that the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court will be the new interim president and that a technocrat national government will be formed."

Let's see how long it takes China or Russia to offer military aid and equipment to Egypt instead...

What "specific steps related to human rights"? And why the fuck do we give Egypt money anyways?

Oh yeah, Al-Sisi hanged a lot of Obama's buddies. Egyptians are actually OK.

2 nanoseconds is my prediction. Susan Rice is out to undermine the US however she can.

    fucking idiots.
Obama did the SAME DAMN THING after the Morsi coupe that installed el-Sisi
we had weapons and spare parts in the pipeline they had paid for. Obama sanctioned them for the coup

Guess what happened? Russia came in and sold them weapons, and established relations with el-Sisi

US policy had been to freeze da Russians out of Egypt after Nasser threw them out decades ago

Obama fucked up, and Biden is following in his footsteps
