DeSantis said they will be replacing it with progress monitoring which many school districts are doing.

“This is short individualized check-in assessments three times per year. This will take hours not days to be able to do these assessments. It has three different opportunities, fall, winter, and spring to be able to check in on growth. There’ll be 75 percent less time for testing, which will mean more time for learning. It also informs teachers in real-time during the school year, so they can better help students,” said DeSantis.

“I do agree and I concur with the Governor and the Commissioner that there are better ways of assessing students rather than relying on one single end-of-the-year assessment that is all inclusive. Obviously we are going to be very attentive to legislative processes that will bring to the state appropriate replacements for these assessments,” said Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.

The United Teachers of Dade issued a statement applauding the ending of the FSA.

They probably don't like how the year-end testing is used to punish low performing schools regardless of the background and aptitude of the students. Why would a good teacher ever go to work in a struggling low income community? No, I did not support NCLB.

After all I've learned about him I am concerned about anything DeSantis supports.

You obviously are completely unfamiliar with your schools...and what a good teacher is...Try to let go of your hate for DeSantis long enough to recognize how great these ideas are....and what a positive difference they will make...

trump underperformed the stock market in the return on his inheritance. In other words, he is below average.

Let's give an alternative example: Michael Bloomberg is roughly the same age as trump. Bloomberg started out with NOTHING, and now is worth 20 times as much as trump.

I'm trying to understand the principle behind your position. You say we need testing because otherwise we won't know how bad kids are doing and we're basically living in fantasy but you don't like NCLB which was all about increasing testing to know how bad kids are doing and not live in fantasy?

    seems more worldish
I was great test taker- but never did homework ( it was the 60's and I had better things to do after school)

Some people go to school but are lousy test takers.

Ideally you need both - you have to perform on command (test taking) and you have to have discipline and
doggedness to get your daily work done

Well that makes more sense. You probably didn't even read what the proposed legislation entails it was simply a knee jerk response to who was proposing it. Kind of shocked you would actually acknowledge that, especially after starting a thread claiming Democrats are issue driven, but I guess you should be given credit for honestly. Pretty sad though wouldn't you say that there's no principle involved in what you support?

Well, it's pretty clear why you're having difficulty in understanding my position. It's because you rewrote my post, made a strawman out of my position, then ripped it to shreds.

I think testing has value. I don't think funding should be pulled from low performing schools with the intent of seeing them closed down to be replaced with for-profit schools as a reward for huge campaign donations.

Public schools don't have to earn a profit, so all of the funding goes into education.

For-profit schools have to pay for all the same things as public schools, and also generate a profit for investors. That profit comes at the expense of education. Logically, the for-profit model is at a disadvantage in providing a good education and generating good jobs.
