Default COVID-19 Weekly Update: Florida surpasses 3 million COVID-19 cases; Flagler passes 11

Way to go governor DeDumb-ass?!! He said this latest surge in covid-19, is just a seasonal thing?!!

In another grim milestone, Florida surpassed 3 million COVID-19 cases, the state Department of Health reported Friday.

Florida's COVID-19 cases dropped slightly between Aug. 13 and 19 with 150,118 new cases, according to the FDOH. The state's total is 3,027,954.

But it's still the second-highest weekly increase the state has seen, a less-than 1% decrease from the 151,415 cases reported the previous week, according to FDOH data.

The state's positivity rate is slightly higher at 19.8%. Last week, it was 19.6%

Florida's COVID-19 death toll reached 42,252 Friday, after 1,688 deaths were added to its total. According to the DOH, 346 were deaths from last week. There is often a lag in reporting COVID-19 deaths.

Flagler County reached 11,096 COVID-19 cases on Friday when it added 746, a new peak for the county. The previous high was three weeks ago with 671 new cases. The county's positivity rate is now 25.7%.

Volusia County added 2,786 new COVID-19 cases between Aug. 13 and 19 for a total of 62,575 cases. The county's positivity rate is 22.6%.

    Good thread, Ken.

    OP link:

"“Through the powerful voices of our frontline health-care heroes comes the life-saving pleas for Floridians to get vaccinated. In partnership with the Florida Medical Association, we are sharing public service announcements to raise awareness about the threat of the Delta variant, especially on younger Floridians,” said Mary C. Mayhew, President and CEO, Florida Hospital Association in a press release. “Half the COVID-19 cases at a major Florida hospital system are under 40 - the threat is real. Get vaccinated to protect yourself. Get vaccinated to ensure you will be there for your family.”"

here's some great news for Florida:

Florida schools revolt—a majority of state's students now attend schools requiring masks

More than half of Florida's students are now enrolled in schools that have joined a rebellion against the efforts of Gov. Ron DeSantis to endanger children, according to The Washington Post.

Altogether, 10 school districts in the Sunshine State have voted to implement universal mask mandates in defiance of DeSantis' executive order banning such requirements. On Tuesday, Orange and Indian River counties became the latest districts to adopt masking requirements in order to reduce the risk of children and staff contracting COVID-19 as the state suffers through a withering surge. Now Florida's six largest districts have all adopted mask mandates: Miami-Dade, Broward, Hillsborough, Orange, Palm Beach, and Duval. The list also includes two districts that went for Trump in 2020: Indian River and Sarasota.

Combined student enrollment for all 10 counties accounts for roughly 52% of the state's student population, according to the Florida Department of Education.

My parents live in Flagler, so I spend a good amount of time there. At least twice a month, the cult assembles at the main intersection of town, veins bulging, flags waving and stupidity flowing like water. No one ever wears masks there. They were immune.... until they weren't. I won't take either of them out of the house now, despite the fact that they are both vaccinated. Florida is filled with morons. The Governor and both Senators fit neatly into that demographic. The stupidity has gotten thousands killed. I have no answer.
