What a fucking moron.
According to KFF's 2018 Employer Health Benefits Survey, the average worker pays $5,547 in premiums and $1,573 in deductibles for a total of $7,120. The HH median income in the country is $61,000. So right now, the average worker pays 12% of their income for health care ($7,120/$61,000 = 11.6%).
Likewise, the average business pays $15,000 per employee to provide coverage. For a business of 50 employees, that is $750,000. The average income for a "small business" (<50 employees) is just $73,000, according to PayScale.
Bernie's M4A plan's payroll tax rate sets a 4% tax on income for workers, and 7.5% tax on income for businesses.
So doing some simple math:
Under the current system, the average worker pays 11.6% of their income, or $7,120 for health care.
If taxed at 4% as proposed, the average worker pays 4% of their income, or $2,440 for health care, saving $4,680 a year.
Under the current system, the average small business of 50 employees pays $750,000 to provide coverage ($15K/worker x 50 workers).
If taxed at 7.5% as proposed, the average small business of 50 employees pays just $5,475 to provide coverage for all its workers, saving $744,525.
