Default US comes in last in health care rankings

The US once again ranked last in access to health care, equity and outcomes among high-income countries, despite spending a far greater share of its economy on health care, a new report released Wednesday has found.

While the latest data does not reflect the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, it lays out the strengths and weaknesses of each country's health care system when Covid-19 hit the world in early 2020.

US health insurance does not provide enough protections, which compromises Americans' health and finances, said David Blumenthal, president of the Commonwealth Fund, which promotes better health care access and quality, particularly for the uninsured and disadvantaged. That forces people to skip care or become burdened with medical debt.

"In no other country does income inequality so profoundly limit access to care as it does here," Blumenthal said. "Far too many people cannot afford the care they need and far too many are uninsured, especially compared to other wealthy nations."

    Dear Red-State Trump Voter,
Let’s face it, guys: We’re done.

It is a tragedy that so much of the work that so many men and women toiled at for so long to make this a better country, and a better world, has been thrown away, leaving us all in such needless peril.

This is why our separation in all but name is necessary.

John Oliver had an interesting segment on his show about the cost of for profit healthcare transportation, that would give anyone a heart attack, before they even get to the unaffordable hospitals.

In early February, Rick Santoro, 60, was at an orthopedist’s office for a small procedure, an injection in his knee. Afterward, he passed out, but once he regained consciousness, he continued to feel ill.

His doctor suggested he go to the emergency room, and Santoro, uncertain why he was having issues, agreed.
An ambulance took him two miles to the nearest hospital, and a few weeks later, the bill arrived.

After receiving a two-mile transport in February, Santoro experienced sticker shock: His ride added up to $2,691.50. Though insurance covered most of it, Santoro had to pay $770.30 out of pocket, and he wondered if that was right. The bulk of the bill resulted from the fact he hadn’t yet hit his annual deductible, but it still seemed pricey, he said, given the brief care he received.

The short ride cost more than the subsequent emergency room visit, which he estimates lasted about two and a half hours. That bill was $200.

That is the best one can hope for when a political party is in the pockets of the health insurance industrial complex.

Is that so and the newrepublic is trash misinformation. Now consider legitimate and factual information you fool:

Despite the intended destructive affect that the lawlessly hacked in Putin puppet tRump and his GQPer sewer mob had on America, this still did not erase the following fact:

The U.S. health care system is unique among advanced industrialized countries. The U.S. does not have a uniform health system, has no universal health care coverage, and only recently enacted legislation mandating healthcare coverage for almost everyone. Rather than operating a national health service, a single-payer national health insurance system, or a multi-payer universal health insurance fund, the U.S. health care system can best be described as a hybrid system. In 2014, 48 percent of U.S. health care spending came from private funds, with 28 percent coming from households and 20 percent coming from private businesses. The federal government accounted for 28 percent of spending while state and local governments accounted for 17 percent.[1] Most health care, even if publicly financed, is delivered privately.

In 2014, 283.2 million people in the U.S., 89.6 percent of the U.S. population had some type of health insurance, with 66 percent of workers covered by a private health insurance plan. Among the insured, 115.4 million people, 36.5 percent of the population, received coverage through the U.S. government in 2014 through Medicare (50.5 million), Medicaid (61.65 million), and/or Veterans Administration or other military care (14.14 million) (people may be covered by more than one government plan). In 2014, nearly 32.9 million people in the U.S. had no health insurance.[2]

This fact sheet will compare the U.S. health care system to other advanced industrialized nations, with a focus on the problems of high health care costs and disparities in insurance coverage in the U.S. It will then outline some common methods used in other countries to lower health care costs, examine the German health care system as a model for non-centralized universal care, and put the quality of U.S. health care in an international context."

The Repubs fight like hell to keep this terrible system in place. We pay double and get the bottom care of industrial nations. Every other one has universal healthcare. We get all those medical bankruptcies thrown into the mix.
If you want to start your own business. you have healthcare to pay for. If you switch jobs, you have a gap in coverage that you can live in fear for a month or so.
Our corporations have to compete internationally with companies that do not have to pay for and manage health care.
There is nothing to recommend our healthcare system.

The spendy part is the staff required to be on board.

I'll be dead a long time before political bribery ends.

ALEC is not a lobby; it is not a front group. It is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, behind closed doors, corporations hand state legislators the changes to the law they desire that directly benefit their bottom line.
Along with legislators, corporations have membership in ALEC. Corporations sit on all nine ALEC task forces and vote with legislators to approve “model” bills. They have their own corporate governing board which meets jointly with the legislative board. (ALEC says that corporations do not vote on the board.)
Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. Participating legislators, overwhelmingly conservative Republicans, then bring those proposals home and introduce them in statehouses across the land as their own brilliant ideas and important public policy innovations—without disclosing that corporations crafted and voted on the bills.
ALEC boasts that it has over 1,000 of these bills introduced by legislative members every year, with one in every five of them enacted into law. ALEC describes itself as a “unique,” “unparalleled” and “unmatched” organization. We agree.
It is as if a state legislature had been reconstituted, yet corporations had pushed the people out the door.

    I bet.

John Oliver had the ambulance/EMT technicians on his show, they weren't making that much $$$ and most didn't have health insurance.

    July 7 2021
New York City’s EMT workers say they will boycott Wednesday’s ticker tape parade honoring essential workers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Union leaders on Tuesday said the only EMTs that will be at the city’s “Hometown Heroes” celebration on Wednesday will be there on-duty, as they continue to fight the city for better wages.

“The city just wants to permit us around without really acknowledging the main issues that we face every day,” said FDNY EMS Local 2507 Union President Oren Barzilay.

He notes that while the city has been planning the ticker tape parade, EMT workers have gone four years without a contract as the unions continue to push for better salaries.

“Our people, not just the EMS but, in all walks of life can barely afford to pay rent in the city, can barely afford to eat. We are all struggling,” said Barzilay.

The starting pay is for an EMT worker is $35,000, compared to $45,000 for firefighters.

While searching for the above comments, I came across this!

Big Brother is watching you — in the toilet.

That’s how outraged paramedics and EMTs feel about a new FDNY directive requiring bosses to document and report when ambulance crews refuse an assignment because they are answering nature’s call, The Post has learned.

Their union responded to the FDNY’s restroom monitoring order with a furious letter to members advising them to “take photographic evidence” every time they go to the loo — and email pictures to their captains.

“What does this come down to — document your poop with a TikTok loop?” a veteran medic fumed, calling EMS brass “the bathroom police.”

I'm well aware that it's lobbyists writing policy and legislation and that we actually no longer live in a democracy which sadly is okay for far too many Americans.

What really ticks me off is that so many on the left refuse to see how corrupt and corporate owned the democratic party is in their own right. They even put Obama on a pedestal when that POS was a Reagan democrat who bailed out Wall Street with zero accountability while people were being kicked out of their homes. I voted for him in 2008 and was disgusted when he actually placed banksters in his cabinet. And that is far from the only Republican-lite thing Obama perpetrated. Blind partisanship and devotion to these self-serving politicians is profoundly stupid and detrimental!
