There are hundreds of them. And dockets were full before January 6th. Not to mention that investigations are ongoing. More is being learned. Additional charges may be in order for some of them before they see their day in court.

The way it usually works is a defendant is charged *given a trial date* and then given an opportunity to meet bail. If the investigation discovers another charge—charge him again. The second charge doesn’t negate the first.

Try again. That excuse isn’t very good.

Name the specific people that you think are being held in custody for 7 months while only being charged with non-violent crimes.

The problem with the claims of such things happening is that there is no evidence of that occurring. The Washington Examiner didn't name a single person being held. Don't you think that would be important? How can anyone be visited if we don't know their names.

If it’s federally funded then Congress has over sight authority.

Congress members can visit the border at any time because they appropriate funds for border security so they *have a responsibility* for oversight. How is this jail any different?

Since it’s so obvious what’s going on here I’ll spell it out. Pelosi May or May not know if these prisoners are being deprived of their constitutional rights. In either case, her move is to do nothing. Obviously, if she knows things are going on that shouldn’t be, that must remain hidden at least until the 1/6 investigation is over.

By the same token, if she doesn’t know if the rumors are true, she can’t take the risk that they are true or it will take away from the all important [politically] investigation if it is exposed.

Even the ACLU won’t budge her.

Oversight authority doesn't give Congress the ability to show up unannounced for an inspection.
Can Congress show up at any military base unannounced and demand to see where weapons are stored?
Can Congress show up at a missile silo and demand to see the missile?
Can Congress show up at Guantanamo and demand to visit every cell?
Can Congress show up at the Supreme Court and demand to see the chambers of each judge?

Your argument is idiotic. Congress has oversight of the Executive branch yet they are regularly denied access to documents and employees of the Executive branch. The department of corrections is run by the Executive branch.
