The criminal activity [to whatever extent it exists] would necessarily include conspiring to disrupt an official proceeding. From there, that would necessarily include Trump [again, to whatever extent he was involved] and whoever else was involved in planning it in the prior weeks or months.

Effectively, the same things Pelosi is going to investigate.

In a more *rational* environment, Congress would *wait* to see what the actual investigation reveals and if any individuals besides the actual rioters are implicated in criminal activity, then, Congress could pick it up from there.

But, the 2022 election season is right around the corner and the actual investigation could easily extend beyond that before it provides democrats any political capital. And democrats can use some. Biden is barely above water in some approval polls and he’s in clear danger of slipping under. Deservedly, given a lot of what is going on.

Hence, Pelosi is not waiting. She wants to strike while the iron is hot.
