I actually don't believe this to be true. I think Trump thought the violence he ordered would be a source of pressure the release for which would require Pence to not fulfill his duty that day.
I think Trump was in it for the long game. If it succeeded then Trump was not ejected that day. Then throw it into courts again somehow based on that.
