" CNN —
A man who pleaded guilty to breaching the Senate chamber during the US Capitol insurrection was sentenced Monday to eight months in prison in a closely watched case that could influence how hundreds of other rioters charged with the same felony are punished.
Paul Hodgkins, a 38-year-old Floridian, is now the first Capitol rioter convicted of a felony to be sentenced. He pleaded guilty last month to obstructing congressional proceedings – specifically, the counting of the electoral votes, which he helped delay on January 6. He spent about 15 minutes inside the Senate chamber, wearing a Donald Trump shirt and carrying a Trump flag.
The sentence is far less than the 1.5-year prison term that the Justice Department requested. At a hearing Monday, prosecutors argued that 1.5 years would deter future political violence and send a strong warning to “people who may be contemplating a second act” after January 6.
District Judge Randolph Moss departed from that recommendation. He said Hodgkins contributed to a grave offense against democracy but deserved some leniency because he pleaded guilty “exceptionally early,” wasn’t involved in violence and issued a “sincere” apology.
“Hodgkins was staking a claim on the floor of the United States Senate, not with the American flag but with a flag declaring his loyalty to a single individual over the entire nation,” Moss said. "
"In addition to prison, Hodgkins was ordered to pay $2,000 to repair damage to the Capitol. "

He got off easy. Wait till the violent ones get sentenced...

And the right thought COVID measures were 'lock-downs.'
Here's one who will learn a whole new meaning to the term.
HE'S gonna be IN the lock-down.

well on the bright side, these are FELONY convictions so it will stay on their rap sheets permanently, depending on their state their right to vote may by terminated or severely curtailed, many are young and will have to identify themselves as felons on their job applications from now on, and outside of the right wing echo chamber they will be social pariahs

BLUEXITA Modest Proposal For Separating Blue States From Red
Dear Red-State Trump Voter,
Let’s face it, guys: We’re done.
It is a tragedy that so much of the work that so many men and women toiled at for so long to make this a better country, and a better world, has been thrown away, leaving us all in such needless peril.
This is why our separation in all but name is necessary.

What did you expect, the electric chair? And not to be a nitpicker, but why is ‘insurrectionist’ in your thread title when the charges aren’t within light years of ‘insurrection’.
Wouldn’t that be judged as ‘misinformation’ by the fact checkers working for the tech oligarchs?

Hello Darth,
The word applies.
Hey Darth. I forgot how you handled it when I previously showed that the events precisely match the definition of the word. Remind me, please?
" insurrection noun . in·sur·rec·tion | \ ˌin(t)-sə-ˈrek-shən \
Definition of insurrection
: an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government"
Merriam-Webster
Not only were the criminals revolting against civil authorities (the capital police,) and an established government (The US Congress,) there was violence and extensive damage.
It can hardly be called a school field trip tourist tour.
January 6th was an Insurrection.
I fully understand, however, if buying in to The Big Lie also requires Trump supporters to refuse to call an insurrection an insurrection. Naturally, I also get it that if it had been a mob of liberals that did the exact same crimes? There would be no problem at all calling an insurrection an insurrection.
It wouldn't even be an issue.

Hello Darth,
Thank you.
"invasion noun
in·va·sion | \ in-ˈvā-zhən
\
Definition of invasion
1 : an act of invading especially : incursion of an army for conquest or plunder
2 : the incoming or spread of something usually hurtful"
No, I don't think either of those apply. You'd probably go with definition 2, but despite the right wing echo chamber nonsense, hurt is not clear. More working people not only compete for jobs, some of them also create jobs. And they all add to the economy, yielding a larger GDP. Plenty of jobs in the USA remain unfilled. Here comes a bunch of tax-paying workers to add to the economy. What should we do? Republicans say "Keep em OUT!" Other voices say: "What's the problem?" They want to work, pay taxes and buy things. And they don't get into as much trouble as natural born Americans. They want to build new homes and infrastructure. They will be paying into the Social Security System, thereby making it solvent again along the way.
So we still have to wonder. What the heck is so bad about all of that?
Well, we don't have to wonder, really. We know what the problem is. Let me help all those failing memories out there, blinded by Right Wing Echo Chamber BS:
They are mostly Hispanics and the tend to favor Democrats.
Oh, there ya go I said it.
BINGO!!!
Ding Ding Ding !!!
THERE is the real problem for Republicans. They can't stand the idea of America becoming more diverse. They are afraid that as a minority they will get treated the way they have treated minorities. That scares the daylights out of them.
And it's dumb. Nothing is going to change white privilege any time soon. Even as a minority race, I assure you, whites will still dominate and feel superior / special / above / chosen, whatever. And the white icons of power, the American dynasties, will continue to cling to power. And the
Republican Party will continue to be supported by big money and old white men.
