These were the protestors eventually released. The looting and burning wasn't exactly overlooked. It was widely and graphically reported by the so called liberal press which is why we all know about it. Racial tensions in the involved cities were at danger points in those days and nights, as has happened in the past in this country with disastrous consequences, and officials had to be mindful of them as they felt their way forward, all of which may be over your head, but there it is.

And no one compared it to a "tourist event".
