Exactly. Two completely different problems. Black people have a basic mistrust that needs to be overcome, and I believe it can be. Not Republicans. They are ignorant and proud of it. They are defiant. If the libs want them to get the vaccine, they damn well will not. It's a death cult. I don't know how to reach a death cult and deprogram them. That's what it's going to take.

I don't want to hear about 'but Democrats too'. There is a huge crossover between Democrats and members of the black community. By and large, that is where the resistance among Democrats comes from. And Democratic vaccination rates are THIRTY FOUR POINTS HIGHER than Republicans, so it is simply a red herring to ask about Democrats. There are two groups that need to be encouraged to get the vaccine. The black community, and Republicans. That represents easily 75% of the unvaccinated adults in this country. Maybe more. The math is pretty simple. 60% of blacks are vaccinated, so 40% are not. Adult blacks number about 32 million, so we can assume that unvaccinated black adults number 12.8 million. Using the numbers from the 2020 election as a yardstick, there are about 107 million adult Democrats. With a vaccination rate of 86%, that means there are about 15 million unvaccinated Democrats. Logically, we can assume a significant majority of those are black adults. So the 'Democrat problem' you raise is actually a black hesitancy problem. Now let's move to Republicans. 52% are vaccinated. Based on the 2020 results again, there are about 97 million adult Republicans. That means there are FORTY SIX MILLION Adult Republicans who are unvaccinated, most of them white, under 40 and uneducated. Now, let's get real. Where is the problem? It's those two segments of the population, blacks and Republicans, and the Republican problem represents 75% of those two groups. So let's focus on where the problem is. If you think Republican leaders are doing the right thing, you have not been paying attention.
Not to derail the discussion but I’m curious where you got those numbers for total Democrats and Republicans. We know Biden got 81 million votes and Trump 74m.

Where are you getting the 107 and 97 million number from for adult Democrats and Republicans respectively? (Not to mention just because one votes for a Presidential candidate doesn’t necessarily mean they are a member of that party.)

It's as good a measure as any. I took the total adult US population (209 million) and multiplied by the percentage that each candidate received. Since that didn't add up to quite 100% I only get 204 million. It's close enough for this exercise unless you want to debate those. Obviously we need to count non-voters since they can still be vaccinated. Including independents doesn't make a lot of sense, and I don't really have a breakdown for that demographic anyway. I think it's fair to assume Trump/Biden is a pretty accurate representation and that is backed by the stats, Trump counties have lower vaccination rates than Biden counties.

Reading a pew research report from last year shows more voters are registered as independent than either Republican or Democratic. Now just because one is registered as independent doesn’t mean they can’t be or aren’t partisan or right or left leaning. But places like this are a bubble. Not everyone who is registered to vote follows politics closely or has any idea what’s really going on.

The deprogramming could be easy. All it requires is for their leaders to be disincentivized from selling lies and incentivized to being sane, responsible people.
The lemming cult would fall in line quickly, I think.

How hard to say a vaccine is safe and effective (truth) instead of making it a battle cry of freedumb, the thinnest of rationales given the cost benefits.
Fox News and their leaders should be held accountable for the carnage caused by their lies.

Anecdotally I know of not a single Dem who is anti-vax.

Usually those polls break down left leaning vs tight leaning but I still think Presidential vote is close enough for this exercise. Giving a slightly different breakdown isn’t going to meaningfully change this.

I’m a registered libertarian, not sure if that’s considered independent. Personally I think not. HOWEVER I had the misfortune of growing up in a democratic crime ridden shithole of a city and I saw firsthand the death, destruction , corruption and third world politics of the place.
So inherently I tend to be anti-democrat . But they do have policies I agree with. Like most folks I have one issue that’s most important and for me that’s violent crime . I had three people close to me in N.O. murdered and I find dems to be soft on violet criminals. AFAIC, they have blood on their hands.

Link? Agreed Carnegie's book was excellent.

OTOH, clearly the Republican party has politicized a pandemic so much that wearing a mask is considered a vote for Biden. It's fucking ridiculous.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is a fucking moron. Whether she is reelected is up to the citizens in her district just like there other 434 reps.

IMO, the responses by certain people isn't about individualism, but selfishness to the point of being anti-American.

What are you going to do about it? NOTHING!** LOL

How many keyboards does a keyboard warrior loser like you go through each year?

**Coincidentally, that's also the same answer for questions like "What is your career potential?" and "What differences will you see in your life in over the next five years?"

I agree, as long as while they're doing it, they aren't endangering others, and they aren't expecting us to pay for it. That's why I've always favored helmet and seatbelt laws, besides the life-saving properties of those things. People who end up needing lifelong care that they can't pay for because they're too stupid to buckle up or put on a brain bucket shouldn't expect the rest of us to cover the hundreds of thousands of dollars it will cost to keep them "alive."
