Actually, they're in the majority. Your party will be gone in 10 years. They should be proud to use their platform to speak out against racial injustice.

They are certainly not in the majority... That's becoming more apparent every day...They're free to use their platform anytime they're not wearing USA jerseys on a global stage ... There are dozens of other equally talented ladies to replace them if they're disappointed in America....

As a former professional athlete at the level where it got me gas and beer money as a college student but God forbid if I had to live on it,
I watch these kids making $30,000,000 a year and cry just a little bit inside.

Extreme jealously isn't enough to keep me away from baseball, though.

When bleacher tickets were $1 and subway tokens 20 cents [although I often walked], I'd go to maybe thirty games a year.

Now I have cable and a 70" flat screen instead.
Fenway seats were made at a width for 1912-sized asses, and that's not me anymore.

Can you watch it without nodding off? They've been working to speed up the game over the years by not allowing the batter to step out of the box so often. There is sometimes 2 minutes between pitches. Close games are indeed exciting, just as with soccer. There are a lot of yawners in baseball, though.

Soccer is always fast paced, albeit low scoring at times. With youth soccer leagues growing across America for the last 20 years, there is a lot more interest. It was slow going at first.

I rarely watch sports anymore until the end of the season when the games are important. I don't have the time. I'll record football once in a while, and fast forward past the slow parts.

For the most part, I watch MMA.

But why ppl have stampedes and trample each other when their team wins/loses is beyond my ken.

Cable contracts increased player pay exponentially.

The Hall Of Famers had real jobs in the off season. Out of necessity.

Their punching skills are really bad, even at the highest UFC level, but just the same, they're crazy people trying to kill each other.
    They're tough guys for sure.
They can't deliver punches as well as boxers understandably because they need kicking and grappling skills too.

Also, they must defend their entire bodies, not just the front half of the top half.

Boxers, on the other hand, can only attack the front half of the top half of the body against an opponent highly skilled at defending it,
so landing solid blows against skilled competition takes extreme skill. I've sparred with pros not like myself--people you've heard of--
    and they're ungodly good.

I coached a 13-15 year old baseball team once.

Almost half my team wound up in prison when they grew up.

    Not my son, though.

Well that's kind of unfortunate....but you can't save them all...Did you have fun at the time at least?
I'm sure team sports/sporting programs ( basketball, golf, tennis, boxing, etc.) help more kids than they lose, though....so, yes, often it does work out....and is totally worth it...
I wish communities would bring back programs they've abandoned....

No, Detroit is quite a haul for us, an 8-hour drive (at least). Milwaukee is about the same.

When I was a kid we went to Cardinals baseball games often. Like you said it was a lot cheaper then. Plus the team gave away "Straight A" tickets so between my sister and I we got those as well. She wasn't much into it; it was my mom's and my thing. We took the kids when they were little a couple of times. The only other professional sports thing I've attended as an adult was a couple of Blues hockey games. Booooring.
