I do not know if she can. I suspect she CAN, but would not do so without assurances from the nominee beforehand that he/she would accept. And I doubt many of those poor, hostage people can take that chance.

Now, its very existence is determined by public acceptance of that sludge. I pity the politicians of that party...stuck between a rock and a hard place. I cry for them.



I think it would be a great idea for Pelosi to invite some conservative (but thoughtful) members of the public to "audit" the proceedings...to participate except in voting. She should ask Republican Party members (or former elected Republicans) to nominate counsel for the Republican side. Anything that she is allowed to do that will give more credence than elected Republicans can bring to the table.
