Doubtful that it would happen. Basically, the vaccine reduces all variants transmission by 50%. It is just that the original spread at a much lower rate, so cutting it in half was a major achievement.

The variants have a huge amount of overlap, which implies that there are a limited number of beneficial mutations out there. This would mean we are looking at a limited number of variants.
