Default "The obscure foundation funding "Critical Race Theory" hysteria"

"Critical Race Theory (CRT), once a little-known academic concept, is now at the center of the national political discussion. CRT is discussed incessantly on Fox News. It is featured in campaign advertisements. And legislation banning it is advancing in statehouses around the country."

"This didn't happen on its own. Rather, there is a constellation of non-profit groups and media outlets that are systematically injecting CRT into our politics. In 2020, most people had never heard of CRT. In 2021, a chorus of voices on the right insists it is an existential threat to the country."

"The people and groups behind anti-CRT hysteria claim that there is a radical new theory being taught in schools that seeks to make white people hate themselves and define everyone exclusively by their race. None of this is true"

"Investigation reveal that many of the entities behind the CRT panic share a common funding source: The Thomas W. Smith Foundation. The Thomas W. Smith Foundation has donated more than $12.7 million to 21 organizations attacking Critical Race Theory"

"Recipients of funds from the Thomas W. Smith Foundation include: Heritage Foundation, The Daily Caller, The Federalist, Judicial Watch, The National Review, PragerU, Real Clear Media, The American Spectator"

Kimberlé Crenshaw is a Distinguished Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law. Crenshaw teaches Civil Rights and other courses in critical race studies and constitutional law. Her primary scholarly interests center around race and the law, and she was a founder and has been a leader in the intellectual movement called Critical Race Theory. She now splits her time each year between UCLA and the Columbia School of Law. Crenshaw's publications include Critical Race Theory (edited by Crenshaw, et al., 1995) and Words that Wound: Critical Race Theory, Assaultive Speech and the First Amendment (with Matsuda, et al., 1993).

It's been around for a while. In other words the topic was always meant for universities. Never for this ideology to be brought into K-12.

Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

So a progressive site is upset that there are people on the right who don't agree with/don't want CRT taught in schools and that somehow makes them/you an arbitrator of what is fact and who or who isn't swallowing anything here?

There is a huge difference between Critical Race Theory- and NON-CRITICAL AND NON-SENSICAL RACIST CONSPIRACY THEORIES!

Critical Race Theory is actually debatable!

Site only offered who is funding the effort, and the reality is, the CRT theory designed for college level study is not being suddenly taught in American schools. With recent events, there has been a call to reevaluate how the black experience has been addressed in schools, and some schools have revised how they will teach such, but this is far from CRT theory the demogogues on the right says is being taught in schools

SO Ted Cruz who actually attended the law school who created the theory for that purpose, and Fox NEWS have a lot of explaining to do for intentionally trying to use CRT as a race baiting tool!

I spent some time this past weekend with a lady who runs an educational non-profit helping kids overcome digital overload and working on their mental health. On the side they also raise money to help pay for underserved Oakland youth to go to school. Separate of that we had a discussion about CRT and the anti-racism movement in schools. She was very familiar with what was happening at the Dalton School in NYC and the Brentwood School in L.A. She has a relative who runs a high profile school in Menlo Park who is starting to have to deal with a little bit of what those other schools listed went through.

This stuff is happening. You're viewing it from strictly a political power perspective but that doesn't change the reality on the ground.

I hate that we feel like we have to create a mythology about America that isn't in line w/ the reality.

That doesn't mean that America isn't great, and that we can't be incredibly proud of our history & our present. But it wasn't all pretty. We should teach all of the warts along w/ the accomplishments.

So, you can't debate on racial inequalities?

Like many things the devil is in the details. Two people might both agree we should teach our warts but what that would entail to each person might be very very different.
