The house has been investigating since the first congress ending in 1791. They have inquisitive powers and can oversee the actions of the branches. An insurrection that trashed the house and injured and killed those defending the capitol bldg is ripe for an investigation.
Part of what they do is make recommendations for improving the problems. They did so in the Benghazi investigations, trying to make embassies safer They did it with the Challenger explosion. The Trump insurrection demands an investigation that is fair and public.
