Judaism doesn't recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

That's unimportant in the context of saving America from plunging into the abyss.

We are able to all mostly agree that bashing Gays is bad and that lynching Blacks is bad.

That may be in accord with or in opposition to some religion's belief system, I don't know. But we can all adopt the principle of NOT bashing Gays or lynching Blacks without our all being expected or required to join that religion or adopt that religion's belief system.

If we were to create a list of moral principles that most Americans would agree to try to follow in order to live more peacefully and stop barreling down the Highway to Hell at 100 mph, we would first have to recognize the current rules in effect in our society are non-existent, ineffective or are harmful to our continued existence.

So, because America was founded by Christians and we know that Christianity has flourished and prevailed or survived thousands of years with the same rules it always has, lets shop for our proposed new set or principles from what we know has worked, so we won't create something that is bound to fail because it hasn't stood the test of time.

The Ten Commandments have stood the test of time.

We aren't becoming Christians with this exercise, we are crafting a set of standards that will work for the most of us and borrowing proven ideas from the Bible to consider in populating our list of guidelines we all might can live by, for the benefit of us all.

The translators of the New Living Translation set out to render the message of the original texts of Scripture into clear, contemporary English. As they did so, they kept the concerns of both formal-equivalence and dynamic-equivalence in mind. On the one hand, they translated as simply and literally as possible when that approach yielded an accurate, clear, and natural English text. Do you think America, most ALL Americans, would be outraged if a KKK member burned down the house of a Black family?

Yes.

Because a moral principle, which happens to be in the Bible, was agreed upon by most in our society that murder and murderous discrimination against Blacks should not be done and should be condemned by all good people.

And if you can find a Biblical principle that you like, add it to your approved shopping list. If the religious law has stood the test of time, it should be submitted to the larger group to be taken under consideration by the populace for adoption.

Try to disassociate yourself from the religion and just think of the principle that you could commit to and embrace and live by, which you would like everyone to also live by.

I am not bashing Christianity, I am stating facts. Why do people always say this when others point out the shortcomings of Biblical morality?

I have no problems with Christians as long as they did not try to force their opinion of what is moral or right on me. They are free to practice their religion and morals, I do not care. It is just not for me.
