Our feelings are going to be hurt at sometime by someone; and we need to be equipped to deal with it maturely. But wokeism, I hope you understand, is a reaction to the anti-PC crowd who were offended by PC culture. PC culture, moreso than wokeism, was an attempt to get privileged people to understand how their casual use of offensive language causes pain to other people.

There is nothing wrong with PC, in my opinion. If I ask someone not to call me a fag or a nigga or a wetback or a chink, then that person just shouldn't fucking do it. Am I going after their job? Doubtful, but if someone offends me on purpose, which is not what I'm suggesting Behar did, then that person is an asshole and deserves my wrath in whatever form it comes.

Because people are not doomed to scan groceries for their entire lives anymore than people were doomed to hunt and gather food for their entire lives in the past. Whatever jobs are overtaken by automation can be replaced with other jobs: Research, education, art, etc.

You need to research the etymology of the words. "Nigger" was originally used by white people in reference to their black slaves to differentiate them between civilized (white) people and slaves (black). "Nigga" was designed as a way to reappropriate the word and lessen the animalistic sting that "nigger" had. To this day, both words can be controversial when a non-black, especially white, person uses them. That's why friends, colleagues, and acquaintances need to establish what is appropriate in communication.

Some of my black friends call me nigga (I'm not even black) all the time and like when I call them the same. It can express a closeness between people who have established trust and boundaries. Other black friends have told me in no uncertain terms that they do not want me to use either word in their presence. I respect the preferences of all of my friends and conform to them whenever it doesn't harm me.

I think most people have a little tendency toward liking gossip. I walked passed a barber shop I had never seen in the East Village last week. I didn't have anywhere I had to be, so I stopped in and asked for a shave. They said they could take care of me in about half an hour, which blew my mind, so I did some work and stayed.

I got my shave and sat on the side bench for two hours talking shit about people we don't know with the barbers (the one I got will be on my top list for the rest of my life) and the other customers. It was fun and meaningless, except that it made a great day for me. Distractions like barber shop gossip and The View are harmless, I think, but they serve a small purpose.
