You imply that as far as religion's influence on government, the two countries were the same.

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess there were significant differences.
The Left will cause Government of the people, by the people, for the people, to perish from the Earth.

Anarchism is a political philosophy and movement that is sceptical of authority and rejects all involuntary, coercive forms of hierarchy.

Christians, ideally, had an internal discipline that made any set of mans laws or any external laws less important.

When people began advocating ideas that Christians didn't or wouldn't have, then government became more important to maintain order for all.

Large government is an idea that comes from having too many people in a society who have no internal set of values or a relaxed set of values than Christians and/or from having people in society whose values are far different from Christian values.
They also believed in a republic. That means a government by constitution, not of men.

only when liberals are allowed to do what they want.

historically, less government is better for freedom, but only when society is abundant with moral and ethical people
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

There are. England has been a dictatorship or an oligarchy throughout its history. The United States was organized as a federated republic.
