Default France is pulling back from Africa’s fastest-growing conflict.

AGADIR, Morocco — When thousands of troops from the United States, Africa and Europe trained together here this month, one nation was notably absent: France.

The former colonial power has for years led one of the biggest forces in the fight against extremist groups aiming to conquer land south of the Sahara. But as the United States hosted one of the region’s largest military exercises, Paris announced that its Operation Barkhane is coming to an end, a move that analysts say will upend the international community’s response to the menace at a time when violence shows no sign of abating.

Attacks have spilled from Mali — the epicenter of the conflict, which researchers say was ignited by the 2011 collapse of the Libyan government — to its neighbors, primarily Burkina Faso and Niger.

Nearly 7,000 people died in the violence in 2020, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED) — the highest annual tally yet. Burkina Faso endured its deadliest massacre in years this month when gunmen stormed a northern village, killing at least 132 people.

The Libyan government was collapsed, France was the driver of that debacle as I understand it.

Operation Barkhane and its presence in the Sahel has become increasingly unpopular in France,” she said. “More than 50 [French] soldiers have died since 2013 and therefore there’s no doubt that Emmanuel Macron is very aware that the French public opinion is turning against it.”

Which is how it is supposed to work, leaving if the people of France no longer want France there.

He was trying to make a name for himself is the way I heard it, it was supposed to be good for his political career. The fact that it was a stupid idea that has turned out horrible did not stop him. Why should anyone negotiate with the West and believe in any deal the West offers after this? Gaddafi had been tamed, he was cooperative and useful, and we did this to him.

But watching Western leaders fuck things up because they care about the wrong things and are generally incompetent has become the norm.

Taking out Gaddafi has been catastrophic, with no end in sight, and I am not talking only about the disaster inside of Libya.

Libya is not actually in the Sahel. I know you think all of Africa is the same place, but there are actually a lot of different places there.

From what I understand, Hillary was the driving force behind that. You know, like when she assassinated Khaddafi?

You could argue that Iran kept ISIS in check, but Gaddafi really did not have the reach to keep anyone in check. Even in Libya, he had to compromise with his fellow terrorists. Outside of Libya, he was of little importance.

France is actually operating in the Sahel, when Gaddafi was unable to project that far at any time.

    Whatever dude, enjoy your ISIS.
I for one, do not appreciate their shenanigans.

I could argue that doing away with fucktards like you and ISIS would make the world a better place to live.
