We have a broken immigration system that Congress won’t attempt to fix. Instead we try to put up a wall which will not work because it doesn’t address the underlying causes.

the wall along with REMAIN in Mexico worked very well to keep out migrants.
I also dont want more HB1 visas - they take high paying jobs away from people here

    Underlying causes are way over-sold.
It's not like we havent been giving aid to Northern Triangle countries for a long time
the money doesnt get to th population, and the countries are wracked with drug violence

Sure go ahead and help out, but dont delude yourself that it's going to stop asylum claims
Trump had the border under control despite th asylum law - Biden just flushed all that away and we have virtual open borders now

I put a lot of the blame on the Catholic Church and their stand on Family Planning. You end up with a lot of people ... but not enough jobs to support the population.

Because the Bishops are receiving millions of dollars from the U.S. government to assist in resettling illegal immigrants."

You can try to pin any argument on me you like. That doesn't make it so.

I already told you. I saw this story on the news and figured it would make a great discussion here.

I am undecided on whether open borders is a good idea.

I'm looking at the pros and cons of it.

    Pros:

    1. Economic boost from influx of human capital.
    2. More tax payers paying into the SS system, balancing those books.
    3. Less spent on courts, retnention and deportations.
    4. Makes America greater by increasing our population level.

    Cons:

    1. Could reduce wages.
    2. Could increase demands on government assistance programs.
    3. Places added burden on our social support systems and infrastructure such as water supply.

(let me guess, you own a stake in Nestle, and 'drought' means MORE PEOPLE will be buying your plastic water bottles)
    Incorrect guess.

More thirsty mouths does not solve the water crisis.

We should have fewer people in the world, not more.

But since we do have too many people on the planet, maybe it makes more sense to have more of them within our borders where we can control them with laws we make.

After all, if they live elsewhere we don't have as much control over what resources they do use.

At a high level here’s my belief (and people are free to disagree). It’s human nature for a person to want to better their lot in life. America is the greatest country on the planet thus the desire for so many to come. Internally we have a need for both skilled and unskilled labor. That combination is why we have so many people trying to come here.

Our current immigration system is broken in multiple ways and that’s a big reason we’ve had so many people attempt to get here by any means possible. Because we don’t fix our system to make it more accessible and manageable.

And the reality is immigrants add to economic growth which is needed. And in a global world people do have options and the best and brightest can work and start businesses anywhere. We want them here. Additionally some of the most patriotic Americans are recent immigrants. They bring a strong work ethic and passion to America.

A wall can’t overcome our need for labor and human desire to come here. But Congress has been unable for a long time to change our system.

It nice that the Left has begun to stop pretending (lying) about their desire for open borders, for rubbing out nations.
I choose my own words like the Americans of olden times........before this dystopia arrived.

I don't see that we have any choice in the matter.

We are all leaving our grandchildren the overcrowded dystopia because we are unable to convince enough people that world over-population is a problem.

Religion stands in the way of sense.
