"The Golden State has no peers among developed economies for expanding GDP, creating jobs, raising household income, manufacturing growth, investment in innovation, producing clean energy and unprecedented wealth through its stocks and bonds. All of which underlines Governor Gavin Newsom's announcement last month of the biggest state tax rebate in American history."
"By adding 1.3 million people to its non-farm payrolls since April last year -- equal to the entire workforce of Nevada -- California easily surpassed also-ran Texas. At the same time, California household income increased $164 billion, almost as much as Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania combined"
"While pundits have long insisted California policies are bad for business, reality belies them. In a sign of investor demand, the weight of California companies in the benchmark S&P 500 Index increased 3 percentage points since a year ago, the most among all states"
"For all its bluster as being “best for business,'' Texas can't match California's innovation."

And to think that it wasn't the long ago that the MAGA militia told us everyone was leaving California cause it was a Democrat run "shithole" with high taxes and restrictions killing business

It's always interesting to read opinion pieces on California from people who don't live here. He claims Newsom is making investments in housing? We haven't even come close to delivering the number of new housing units he promised on the campaign trail. The author claims the state is good for small business? Barely a day goes by without the SF Chronicle writing an article about how difficult the City makes things for small businesses and mom and pops. And L.A. is not that different.
And there is a definite element of irony when people complain about millionaires and billionaires and income inequality then celebrate it as it continues to widen in California.
An yes Archives, people do leave because of the quality of life issues. It's not an exodus but it's a reality.

With 10 million more people than the next most populous state is there any surprise that California has the largest economy?

Stealing trillions in generational warfare funds papers over a lot of other sins.
It does not however change that California is a deeply mismanaged state that is heading rapidly for a cliff.

Right, a whole lot of other States wish they were also heading for that cliff

I call New Jersey a sh*thole, because well it is. Others call other places in the country sh*tholes as well. Part of it may be for political reasons for others it just may be geographic preference or perceived quality of the people.
Do you think California is above criticism as a state?

I also note for the thread that work that must get done is increasing not getting done in California....that the place is actually physically rotting.... the decline of California is not only about the cities becoming more dysfunctional and Third World by the day.
