1. Continue air support for the Afghan army. Near zero risk of casualties there, but a big payoff in morale and keeping the Taliban from succeeding.
2. Keep Bagram air base. See 1 for a reason. But otherwise, it gave the US a secure and measured means to continue to drawdown without fucking everything away.
3. Not pull support for the regime out from under them without consultation
4. Kept our allies there informed.

Irrelevancies. We held the base securely. We had the troops to hold it in place. It was capable of operating our air support entirely out of it. If it took a few more months to withdraw in an orderly and intelligent fashion, we should have done it.
