Default Biden to sign bill making Juneteenth a national holiday

President Joe Biden is expected to sign a bill on Thursday establishing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day, a US federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

The President and Vice President Kamala Harris are expected to deliver remarks at the White House on the creation of the federal holiday.

I like food holidays. Juneteenth is an awesome food day.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Who cares? In the great scheme of things all holidays are made up by folks to celebrate something, the "when" of it isn't all that important, IMHO. Taking some time to enjoy food is always fun, even if you think it is "made up" and that nobody should ever celebrate anything unless it was made up before you were born (like Juneteenth was).

Don't need a holiday to enjoy food. This is just another leftist exercise in "feel good" bullshit.

When I became a parent I found myself asking my children on occasion, "Is this the hill you want to die on?" when they were making a HUGE deal out of something small, usually something like, "Put your shoes in your room"...

Basically, pretending that it is important that we not celebrate this is the small stuff.

My advice to my kids was always, "Don't sweat the small stuff."

Enjoy the food. Learn something maybe, and fight the good fight like you are the third monkey in line to Noah's ark and it has started raining on the big stuff, you know.. the hill you want to die on...

Good advice. The problem is you only see that scenario from one perspective. Maybe consider it and get back to me. Beyond that every time you take a step back someone many advance on you one step. Any one hill may not a big one but if wait for a big one before you are willing to die your chances of survival may be very low. The question I always asked my kids to consider was, if you aren't willing to stand up now when will you be?
