Government can be a powerful tool of social change. We need to use it carefully in all it's power to fight racism. There are hearts and minds that need to be changed. That's not easy. It is a task for government, and government is what we make it. We the people have to vote for the change we want. And we have to oppose the rich and powerful who fight to corrupt government.

That still doesn't really answer the question. White supremacy, led by our gov't, has dominated this country since inception (so the argument goes). It's not like people haven't said before we should get rid of corruption and vote for change we want. So what's going to change now that hasn't changed when people said the same thing in the past?

" Critical race theory (CRT) is an academic movement of civil-rights scholars and activists in the United States who seek to critically examine the law as it intersects with issues of race and to challenge mainstream liberal approaches to racial justice.[1] Critical race theory examines social, cultural and legal issues as they relate to race and racism.[2][3]

Critical race theory originated in the mid-1970s in the writings of several American legal scholars, including Derrick Bell, Alan Freeman, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Richard Delgado, Cheryl Harris, Charles R. Lawrence III, Mari Matsuda, and Patricia J. Williams.[1] It emerged as a movement by the 1980s, reworking theories of critical legal studies (CLS) with more focus on race.[4] Both critical race theory and critical legal studies are rooted in critical theory, which argues that social problems are influenced and created more by societal structures and cultural assumptions than by individual and psychological factors.[5]

Critical race theory is loosely unified by two common themes: first, that white supremacy, with its societal or structural racism, exists and maintains power through the law;[6] and second, that transforming the relationship between law and racial power, and also achieving racial emancipation and anti-subordination more broadly, is possible.[7] " wiki

Basically, the theory is that racism is maintained through misguided corrupt government, and that conversely, good government action can be the most effective way to fight racism.
I don't think it is misunderstood so much as full of propositions that cannot be tested or proven that many people disagree with.

Q: What is critical race theory?
A: An academic concept that racism is a social construct embedded into legal systems, government policies, and in-laws.

Q: Should critical race theory be taught in our schools?
A: Not unless we’re aiming for fewer white supremacists.

Q: Won’t teaching it just make other kids hate my white children?
A: Your kids are already insufferable and widely despised.

Q: Why do some people condemn critical race theory?
    A: Misplaced sexual frustrations.

Q: Does critical race theory instill the belief that all white people are racist?
A: Academics are way too timid to pull off something like that.

Q: Why are conservatives attacking it so aggressively?
A: They have come to view Joe Biden as too nonthreatening of a target.

Q: Is it true that critical race theory opposes empiricism and embraces science as a causal mechanism?
A: You’re thinking of critical realism theory, moron.

Back in the good old days, CRT just stood for "cathode ray tube," as in, "Ugh, I've gotta pack up my giant CRT monitor and lug it over to Bert's LAN party."
But no more! Now, it stands for "Critical Race Theory" apparently. Everyone's talking about it, so now we've got to google it and find out what it means. After extensive googling, here's what we found out about CRT:

Origins: God made everything good, and then this snake showed up in the Garden of Eden and was like, “Why can’t you have the fruit from that tree over there?” and the sins of pride, jealousy and all the rest were born, sowing the seeds for critical race theory. More recently, people were discontent with their lives despite living in the most prosperous time in human history and had to come up with something to be upset about, so they invented CRT in order to find discontentment and oppression in every situation.

Beliefs: People are inherently good or evil based on the color of their skin. There are some other minor details like wanting to topple Western Civilization, categorizing people into classes of oppressor and oppressed, and eliminating the individual in favor of group identities, but yeah. The hating people for the color of their skin is most of it.

Prominent adherents: Robin DiAngelo, Ibram X. Kendi, the aforementioned snake in the garden.

Opponents: Thomas Sowell, America, the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How to spot a CRT adherent: Look for someone who is obsessed with race, always talking about it, tweeting about it, and screaming at other people about it. It's a clear sign of a CRT disciple.

How do we fight critical race theory? Don’t worry about it. It’s not that big of a deal. Just let your kids go to public schools, watch whatever Netflix shows they want, and follow deranged CRT zealots on TikTok. Nothing bad will come of it.

If we just appease the CRT promoters, they'll eventually be satisfied and leave us alone, right? lol

What’s the difference between CRT and good old-fashioned racism? Here's a comprehensive list of all the differences:

Very interesting theory, but when the wikipedia page on Paulo Freire is opened, it says nothing about violence, radicalism or communism. Instead, it talks about a guy whose family was impacted by the Great Depression and became poor during childhood, which resulted in him having first hand experience in how difficult it is to learn when you are hungry. He overcame this rough start to go on to law school and eventually become an educator who developed analytic methods of pedagogy, which is the philosophy of education methods. The man was very successful and widely recognized in his chosen field, and won many awards.

The wikipedia page on Critical Race Theory says nothing about attributing it to Paulo Freire.
Freire was imprisoned following the 1964 coup d’etat for what the new regime considered to be subversive elements in his teaching.
    https://www.freire.org/paulo-freire/...n%20associated.

Of course the Freire Institute would downplay his revolutionary violence, but...

During this time Freire also participated in the Movement for Popular Culture, and supported the active exercise of democracy in lectures and in his Ph.D. thesis, “Present-day Education in Brazil,” written in 1959. His convictions would earn him the title of “traitor.”
    https://ptoweb.org/aboutpto/a-brief-...-paulo-freire/

Mostly because at the time he was trying to violently overthrow the government of Brazil... You might get labeled a traitor for that... You don't end up in exile for 15 years for nothing...

I got stranded in Mexico once. I tried to get a Job. They all told me that they just hire Mexicans. It was definitely CRT. I probably should have sued them.

there is only one purpose to have a "Critical Race Theory" debated.

To prevent generations from discovering the ugly side of humanity training new arrivals cradle to grave to ignore biology maintains eternal separation of the population lived and living in the atmosphere now.
Every brain born has a lifetime conflict with ancestral displacement and intellectual social position within the population present. Why, life is a compounding connection between inception, conception, death, extinction life doesn't exceed what exists now.

Sounds like you are trying to get me to take up an imaginary argument. I don't think our government has led white supremacy. It has been the other way around.

If you want to know how to get the legalized corruption out of our government that is a big challenge, of course, but a worthy goal.

Here is a proposed method to do just that, which makes a lot of sense, so I support it:

The Strategy To End Legalized Government Corruption

"Politicians are supposed to represent us. But most Americans have a near-zero impact on public policy.

America's corrupt political system is a complex problem. The American Anti-Corruption Act is a comprehensive solution.

The American Anti-Corruption Act sets a standard for city, state, and federal laws that break big money's grip on politics. It will:

Stop political bribery by making it illegal for lobbyists to lobby a politician and donate to their campaign. You can lobby, or you can donate, but you can't do both.
End secret money so Americans know who is buying political power.
Fix our broken elections so the people, not the political establishment, are the ones in control.

Bring conservatives and progressives together to pass Anti-Corruption laws in cities and states across America.

In communities across America, RepresentUs members – conservatives, progressives, and everyone in between – are working together to pass local Anti-Corruption Acts. Member-led RepresentUs chapters are leading the fight to protect our communities from the corruption that plagues Congress. Every town, city, state, and county has a unique political makeup, so every Anti-Corruption Act is uniquely tailored to the needs of each community.

In 2018, RepresentUs members helped to pass 23 anti-corruption reforms across the nation—that's more than at any other time in history.

By 2022, we'll pass dozens more, in pursuit of a tipping point where 'a rush of state activity leads to a change in federal law.'

STUDY: Passing state laws leads to federal reform.

The biggest changes in America almost always start in the states. From Women's Suffrage to Interracial Marriage, states led the way to federal reform. And it still works today.

Every municipal and state Anti-Corruption Act creates common-sense ethics, conflict-of-interest, transparency, and campaign finance laws. State Acts create the opportunity for federal candidates from that state to campaign on the anti-corruption platform – accountable to their constituents, not special interests.

Candidates who win election on this platform have a built-in incentive to champion Anti-Corruption laws in Washington, D.C. (because that's what got them elected). Every state we win gets us one crucial step closer to passing the American Anti-Corruption Act in the federal government."

Basically, the idea is to pass anti-corruption laws at the local level. Elect anti-corruption politicians, have them run at local levels, and then move up to state level.

What candidate in the world wants to take a pro-corruption position?

None. Candidates which support this idea can get elected.

First at the local level. Then at state level. Then at the federal level.

When we get enough anti-corruption candidates at the federal level we can pass national anti-corruption laws and get the corruption out of government.

Yes, this will take a long time. But it's worth it. Look how long it took to get women the right to vote. That began at local and state levels and finally went national. Look at how long getting marijuana legalized is taking. That began at local and state levels, and is currently getting closer than ever to passing that the federal level. Everything big that is worth while begins at the local level and works it's way up as it becomes more popular.

It is the only way. There is no way our current crop of legally corrupt politicians in Congress is going to vote out the corruption that keeps them in office. We, the people, have to tell them what they are going to do, and this is how we do it. The long process is the only way that can work.

We The People....Teachers and parents all over the US are making their voices heard...loud and clear.....
It's just a matter of time until the teaching of it is banned in a good majority public K-12 schools...For very good reason....

I've talked to conservatives who think CRT means if you're white, and you're not actively fighting racism, then you are a racist. So yes, there is a lot of misunderstanding about it.

And that makes total sense. The right wing propaganda machine has gone ballistic about it, so the misunderstanding is spreading. The RWPM certainly isn't going to teach what's posted in wikipedia. That's for sure. Forget facts. Facts are useless to the RWPM. The RWPM is all about spin and rumor generation.

As far as unproven propositions, man, the world is built on them. If humans waited until things were proven before acting, nothing would get done.

It makes sense that government is the only institution powerful enough to take on racism and have a chance at making a difference. We should try everything we can think of. If we can solve it, we will be the first nation to do so. But to simply accept it is defeatism.
