Well, that's not true. I'm sure the KXL ending construction has had a small impact on prices, but nothing compared to Biden stopping all drilling, fracking, and exploration on US government land. That definitely drives the price up. As for shortages... This has more to do with things like refinery maintenance cycles and government regulations along with bans on increased production like pointed out above.

Historically, oil companies don't drill on govt. land because of the enviro regulations. During the decade long boom, they've opted to rape private land, leaving nothing but a mess in their wake.
Biden's policy re. govt. land will do nothing but create a fake price hike by Wall St.

There's no "mess" on the wells on my (now deceased) uncle's ex-ranch outside San Antonio. I thank Conoco for the monthly checks too.

My apologies for leaving the word "New" out. That was my mistake. Biden ends all new drilling, fracking and exploration for oil on government land. Better?

My apologies for leaving the word "New" out. That was my mistake. Biden ends all new drilling, fracking and exploration for oil on government land. Better?
BIG difference. He did NOT end new drilling. He ended new leases. All old leases are still in existence. It will take a decade for oil companies to use all of the current leases.

They prefer drilling on private/state land.

You're agreeing with an idiot. We import gasoline as a matter of policy for decades now.

No new leases means no new drilling. You can't do the latter without having the former.

You might want to check your facts. There are plenty of leases that were never used. Those leases still exist.

An analysis by The Associated Press found that oil companies stockpiled leases and pushed through drilling permit applications on public lands in the waning months of the Trump administration, giving the industry a large inventory to work with.
Biden's halt on new oil and gas leasing also does nothing to affect activities on private or state lands, where roughly 90% of the country's oil and gas development occurs.
"The industry has a lot of leases in production, a lot of leases that have been issued, so it won't have an immediate impact. But it will give an immediate opportunity for the administration to think about how we move forward," said Nada Culver, the vice president of public lands at the National Audubon Society.

So, they can drill on leases pre-existing the Biden administration. Biden halted all new drilling by ending new leases on government land. Of course the energy companies turn to private land to drill in that case.
