According to those numbers, the inflation for the last year has been 1.5%, below the target inflation of 2%. For 10 of the last 12 months, it has been below target inflation. You have to remember that we are no more trying to eliminate inflation than we are trying to eliminate rain to prevent flooding. We want to have it at a very standard level, of about 2%.

The question is how much higher than 2% do we want it to make up for years of undershooting that 2%. My guess is not that much higher. It is like trying to make up for a decade of drought in a day, it will cause flooding.

That being said, the markets believe everything is under control, so I am reassured.

It went as low as 0.1%. I would rather see 4.2% inflation than 0.1% inflation. It was bordering on deflation, which would mean complete collapse.

4.2% is a bit higher than what I would like to see, but as long as it pops back to 2% in a few months, almost all economists would like to see something in the 3 to 4%. 0.1% was a disaster.

For American oil production to make sense, oil prices need to be in the $3 to $4 range. trump allowing prices to drop to $2, which is still doing damage to American oil production.

It reminds me of the damage done when gasoline dropped to $1 under Clinton, but this was very much trump's choice. he did not understand the long term price we would pay for negative oil prices.
