I'll have to check out Boise sometime. I was in Coeur d'Alene two years ago. Not sure I will ever get near Portland or Santa Fe, though. I've already got Portlandia.

Very touristy, a caricature of my culture and home state filled with wealthy outsiders playing a role. That sounds way harsher than I mean it. It's just not my New Mexico.

If it's not validated by independently verifiable data and sources, it is just a claim.

Stating that an opinion is "expert" because you say so is meaningless and a fallacious appeal to false authority.

Cities have high and low areas. My brother lived in Chicago's Gold Coast and it's exemplary living if you can afford it. Chicago and most settlements have their lows too. The rural lows are far off the radar though. Puppy mills, cult gatherings, illegal hunting, drugs, you name it. Cities are no more falling apart than rural areas. You can do more self-reliance living in rural areas that you can't do in cities. That greatly affects the greatest reasonings behind crimes being commited. If you had to feed a family, you'd take desperate means too.
