Recently some scientists have come forward and suggested the lab leak hypothesis is possible, and for a few reasons.

Looking at data relative to Covid there were sewage samples found in Spain that were covid positive in March 2019 a full 9 months before China claimed to have seen its first cases, the sewage sample study is still waiting peer review. There were also sewage sample in Brazil that showed the same results but for Oct-Nov 2019, effectively at the same time the outbreak started in China.

It is true that the lab in wuhan destroyed databases after the outbreak, which is certainly suspicious. However there was also a confirmed leak of materials from Fort Detrick bio weapons lab in 2019, there was an outbreak of a strange respiratory infection at an old peoples home a 4 hour drive away from the site at the end of june 2019 And the closing of Fort Detrick in mid July due to the leaks, how long the weapons lab was leaking materials isn't clear.

Ofcourse the accidental escapse of a Virus is one hypothesis, intentional releasing of the virus by a some party is ofcourse another.

What escaped the lab may well not have been covid 19 ofcourse, it is possible that a gain of function virus escaped and then evolved into covid 19 after a few months free in nature.
