I mostly play nine-ball.
You?
Yeah, putting a hard draw on the cue puts a topspin on the object ball and they can "jump' right back out at you.
The leagues I shoot in are 8-ball, but I prefer playing straight. I got out of the "serious" leagues because nothing pisses me off more than some asshole playing a safe. I know, it's part of the game, but none of us are professionals and I'm in it for fun. I've always said you'll never make a shot you don't try. Some of them even call a safe and shoot their own ball in because it will hide the cue. That really pisses me off and I become quite vocal about it! I usually asked them if they sit down to piss too. Then, there's the idiots who take 5 minutes to look the table over before making a shot. I ask them if they want me to trig it out for them so the game doesn't take half an hour.
I've been asked to shoot in the "serious" leagues again, but I refuse. I'll stick with the fun leagues, we all get along great and the party at the end of the sessions are a good time. We always run a tournament, I don't drink, so by the time everyone is shitfaced, they're a fairly easy win and I often take the 1st. place cash.
Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.
