Default Common sense knife control in the news

Three people were slashed in three separate incidents within 12 minutes on a subway train as it moved through Lower Manhattan.

At 4:25 a.m., a 44-year-old man was slashed in the face on a southbound 4 subway train at the 14 Street Union Square station. He went to Bellevue Hospital.

Minutes later, a 40-year-old man were slashed in the face at the Astor Place subway station. He was also taken to Bellevue Hospital.

A 41-year-old man was also punched during this incident, possibly while trying to help the 40-year-old victim.

And then at 4:37 a.m., a 44-year-old man was slashed in the back of the head in a robbery. That victim was taken to Lenox HealthPlex in Greenwich Village.

The NYPD is isolating video of the suspect and his accomplice and hope to release that video later today.

The suspects are described as two black males in their 20s.

Court documents describe a large amount of blood in several bedrooms in the case against Sarah Ganoe, 35.

She is charged with the fatal stabbing of her infant son, 10-month-old Zell Howard, and the critical stabbing of her 8-year-old daughter.

Police say the little boy had multiple stab wounds and was slashed in the abdomen and the girl had similar injuries including at least 50 stab wounds. She was taken to Children’s Hospital in Norfolk, but the boy was pronounced dead in the apartment. Police say the weapon was a pocket knife with a two-and-a-half-inch blade.

A neighbor says Ganoe had told him directly that she was into witchcraft.

“She told me she liked to dip into witchcraft a little bit,” said Clay Connell.

“Don’t be sad, but the house will be bloody when you get home,” was the text Ganoe sent to her fiance John Howard Monday night, according to police.

Police say Howard found a large amount of blood in several bedrooms, and found Ganoe and her two children lying on the bed in the master bedroom.

The police report said after she had been read her Miranda rights by police, she admitted to the stabbings. Ganoe told them she had bruises to her hand and arm from the way she was trying to put force behind the stabbings, and had a bite mark on her arm that police believed was an attempt by her daughter to struggle to get free.

Connell says when he found out what happened in his building, it was the worst thing he had ever heard.

“I mean for there to be multiple stab wounds on both kids, it was very heartbreaking. No child deserves anything like that,” he said.

Ganoe was arraigned Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and neglect, and aggravated malicious wounding. Her next court date is set for May 20.

A Newark man faces seven years in prison upon sentencing after pleading guilty to two counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose after he stabbed two men on Jenkinson's Beach in Point Pleasant Beach, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced on Thursday.

Police arrived to find Alex Galdamez, 22, and William Mazariego, 18, both of West Haverstraw, New York, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Galdamez and Mazariego were taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment of their injuries following the stabbing attack.

A Sierra Vista man has been arrested alongside three teenagers in connection to a stabbing that occurred at Chandler Fashion Center on March 12.

Chandler Police Department was dispatched to the Chandler Fashion Center, located at 3111 West Chandler Blvd., at around 5:23 p.m. March 12 regarding a fight. When the officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that three people involved received non-life-threatening stab wounds.

The investigation revealed that a physical altercation involving a knife was the result of two groups of men having an exchange of words.

In coordination with the Sierra Vista Police Department, CPD detectives took custody of Courtney in Sierra Vista, Ariz. Courtney was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on multiple counts of aggravated assault, a class 3 felony.

Detectives also identified the suspects in the other group as 19-year-old Tarik Deeb of Queen Creek, 18-year-old Isaias Reece of Phoenix and 18-year-old Nicholas Aguilar of Mesa.

Reece and Aguilar were booked into the Chandler-Gilbert Joint Holding Facility on disorderly conduct-fighting, a class 2 misdemeanor. Deeb was booked into the CGJHF on disorderly conduct-fighting, a class 2 misdemeanor, and misconduct involving weapons, a class 3 misdemeanor.

An hours-long manhunt in Virginia Wednesday for a man suspected of stabbing a woman to death in his own apartment ended at a nearby hotel — where they took 40-year-old Derek Malevich into custody.

Police say they received a call for help around 2 a.m, from a man saying he had stabbed someone in his apartment, and that the victim might be dead.

When officers arrived, they located a female victim with multiple stab wounds to the head and neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s not yet known what type of relationship the victim and suspect had, and the victim’s identity has also not been released yet.

Police say the caller fled the area before officers arrived at the apartment.

The hunt then began for the man they believed responsible — 40-year-old Derek Malevich.

He was then located around 9 a.m. in a room at the Quality Inn Suites in Virginia and arrested a short time later.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office said the man suspected in a stabbing at a Days Inn has been charged with attempted murder.

Authorities were hunting Thursday morning for a man reported to have stabbed another man at the motel.

Authorities were called about 9:30 a.m. to the motel on the stabbing. The victim, identified as David Mase, had been stabbed in the neck.

The attacker left on foot, according to KCSO spokeswoman Kimberly Glenn.

Sheriff's helicopters were in the area as well as deputies and K-9 units.

KCSO said the suspect, identified as Darrell Adam Paul, will be transported to the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility for booking.

Paul told KCSO that he got into an argument with Mase and he pulled a knife out and began to stab Mase.
