That article should be required reading for anyone who wants to be taken seriously in this debate.
This Daszak character is over the EcoHealth Alliance, which was the outfit the NIH went through to fund Wuhan GOF research. Then the formerly respectable medical journal, The Lancet, had Daszak write an article about how the Covid virus had a natural origin.
I think that’s something like having the Fox look after the Hen House.
At any rate, here is Politico trying their best to spin it:
“The backstory: The Trump administration abruptly cut funding for the research in April, with more than $350,000 in grant money remaining in EcoHealth’s 2020 grant.
The cancellation came shortly after reports had linked the project to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a research facility in the city where the coronavirus first emerged — and one that has been the subject of unproven conspiracy theories about the pandemic's origins. EcoHealth Alliance scientists have collaborated with researchers from the Wuhan lab in the past, but were not doing so when the grant was ended.

___________
Note how even Politico leaves no doubt that Fauci is connected to the Wuhan lab. The article is from June of last year before Fauci and the lab became a hot topic.
EcoHealth scientists had decoupled from the Wuhan lab by the time the grant money was cut off—by Trump, last April. I think I would have backed away from the Wuhan lab by April of last year lol. I guess Politico thought that was exculpatory.
Also look at what Fauci says about why it was canceled: [from same link]
“Why was it canceled? It was canceled because the NIH was told to cancel it," said Anthony Fauci, director of the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, in response to a question during a House Energy & Commerce Hearing. "I don’t know the reason, but we were told to cancel it.”
I think Fauci was telling a whopper there. He couldn’t very well say ‘It was cancelled because Trump thought the virus escaped from the lab’ so he feigned ignorance instead.
The whole thing has the appearance of a house of cards. But with the way the media and our ‘justice system’ is—who knows, they’ll probably get away with it.
