(CNN) The bodies of New York City coronavirus victims are still being stored in refrigerated trailers converted into makeshift morgues during the height of the pandemic one year ago, according to the medical examiner's office.

The long-term temporary morgue at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal holding 750 bodies -- not all victims of Covid-19 -- is a reminder of the crush of coronavirus fatalities that overwhelmed city hospitals, mortuaries and funeral homes last spring.

It is not always that they are alone, that there is no one to claim their bodies, sometimes it is that there is no one willing to claim their bodies.

If nobody is willing to claim one's body, that would suggest to me that such person was for all practical intents and purposes alone.

You seem to ignore that people of lower quality now, dont feel the call of duty as our ancestors did. Once upon a time there was a duty to bury the dead members of your clan, now it is more "I will do it if I feel like it".

We took the initiative to pre-arrange our own final dispositions.
My own parents did the same.
It's what thoughtful seniors do now.
