I talk to lots of people with many various views all over the political spectrum, although I have noticed that extremists on both sides usually are unable to conduct respectful civil discourse with people with whom they disagree. You and I disagree on the use of corona vaccines. I hope that doesn't mean we can't talk about it in a civil way. Here's how I roll:
Personal Ignore Policy PIP: I like civil discourse. I will give you all the respect in the world if you respect me. Mouth off to me, or express overt racism, you will be PERMANENTLY Ignore Listed. Zero tolerance. No exceptions. I'll never read a word you write, even if quoted by another, nor respond to you, nor participate in your threads. ... Ignore the shallow. Cherish the thoughtful. Long Live Civil Discourse, Mutual Respect, and Good Debate! ps: Feel free to adopt my PIP. It works well.
If you're good with that, I hope we have lots of interesting and informative discussions. If not, we probably won't be talking long.
Let's try some civil discourse...
Nobody has. It's a novel virus.
The government is not 'pushing fear.' The government is understandably responding to a health threat which is destroying hundreds of thousands of citizens.
If there were any inexpensive cures, they would be utilized. There is no logical reason to suppress a readily available inexpensive cure. That makes no sense.
There is evidence that the causes of deaths are being manipulated - by Republican governors and governments for the purpose of suppressing just how widespread the pandemic really is. Elected office-holders who are bought out by big money are under pressure to keep the economy open and the money flowing into the coffers of the already-rich.
Everyone should get the vaccine. It is the patriotic thing to do. No, we do not know if there might be possible side effects. Life is like that. There is no ultimate security. Each day could bring a new threat. The most dangerous thing most Americans do is get in their car and start driving. Each of us could die on any day. There are no guarantees. That's life. Taking the vaccine is a calculated risk. People in the high risk group are quite motivated to take it for very good reason. Others might be reluctant, and cite reasonable objections.
One thing is certain. We are all in this together. We don't wear masks to protect ourselves. We wear them for the same reason surgeons wear masks in the OR - to protect others. Taking the vaccine is the American thing to do. By doing so, we take a slight risk of possible unknown future side effects, but we also protect ourselves and others and more importantly, we become part of a master plan to eliminate the virus. If every human took the vaccine, we would wipe out the virus in a matter of weeks.
It is important to get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible.
We are in a race. It is vaccination vs mutation. We have a chance to eliminate this novel virus before it mutates into something else. And, given the chance, it could mutate into something more deadly. That would make everyone who declined the vaccine wish they had gotten it and been part of the collaborative to eliminate COVID-19.
We are losing friends, neighbors, relatives and citizens. We can help prevent that by getting the vaccine. It is the least we can do. Soldiers join our military and risk their lives for our country. They knowingly face risk to serve our country. Police and fire workers sign up for very risky jobs, fully knowing that on any day they leave for work, they might not come home that night or ever. These people have dedicated themselves to our country and we hold them in high regard. Are they afraid? Yes. Do they let that prevent them from facing risk? No, they do not.
I hold anyone who faces the risk and gets the vaccine in high regard for being part of the solution.
