Default Can Felons Be Around, Own Or Work With Steels?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

This one was removed so I used the wayback machine.

Does United States Steel Hire Felons?
Based on our research, it appears that United States Steel does hire felons. It should be noted that we compile this information from various internet resources and we cannot guarantee that every company location will have an open mind about hiring a felon. However, from what we have seen in our research, it does appear that someone can work at United States Steel with a felony.

I haven't checked the prior snapshots. But apparently it's something of a sore spot for them.

Most defense contractors are subsidized 1/2 the hourly rate by either state or federal government to hire felons. A high percent of shipyard workers are felons. That has to be true of many difficult and dangerous jobs.

Btw, dropping bombs on innocent civilians is indirectly working with steel but we call them mr. president instead of felon.

You know I couldn't pass up the opportunity, APL.

That's definitely not true. Most defense contractors can't hire felons because they require employees to pass a background check and have a security clearance. Where shipyard workers who are felons working on defense contracts are employed, they are mostly in low skill, low pay jobs due to their lack of ability and training.

There are of course, exceptions. I remember AAA shipyard on the West coast hiring anyone who could sign their name to put a brazed copper bronze piping connection between AFFF stations on the Enterprise back in the 80's. Problem was they did a shitty job and the shipyard tested the install by charging the system with water and foam rather than an air test like sane people do. There was AFFF (a particularly aggressive fire fighting foam that eats most organic material) everywhere. The ship's chaplain came to my shop hoping we could save all his electronic stuff he had in his stateroom. We managed to salvage a couple of items but most of it was wrecked beyond recovery.

On the other hand, Raytheon won't even look at someone with a felony on the books because they can't get a security clearance.

So we agree on the shipyards? Is building or dropping bombs on innocent civilians a felony or misdemeanor?

    Depends...

It could be a crime, a noble justice, or just hilarious fun...

Back in the day, a lot of my friends who worked at the shipyards were special forces in Vietnam. A lot of them were felons. You can't spend your youth on search and destroy missions, then come home and be a law abiding citizen. They can't live with themselves because of what they did in Nam yet they are convicted for the petty things they did in the states.

Smart people fuck up occasionally. Background checks almost automatically put them to a disadvantage. It could be something that happened over 10 years ago on a good bender, a felony possession charge. They've been clean, employed and had a clean record since. They're pretty much fucked applying for advancement.
Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.
