Default House passed D.C. statehood, and here are some of the GOP arguments against it

"Steve Scalise argues D.C.'s crime rate should disqualify it from statehood"
    https://news.yahoo.com/gop-rep-steve...164900233.html
Steve's home State of Louisiana has a greater crime and homicide rate than DC

"Representative Nancy Mace's claims that DC wouldn't 'qualify' as a single congressional district"
    https://www.kten.com/story/43723079/...ional-district
DC's population is greater than the populations of 77 of the 435 existing congressional districts and two States, nearly three

"Jody Hice arguing against statehood for DC, congressman says it has no car dealerships"
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...es/ar-BB1eQOal
As dumb as it is, DC has several car dealerships

"Republican witness Zack Smith, a legal fellow at Heritage Foundation, said D.C. residents don't need voting members of Congress because they can influence Congress with lawn signs in the city"
    https://americanindependent.com/repu...muriel-bowser/
    Flat out stupid

"Rep. Glenn Grothman said if DC became a state, representatives would spend almost all their time trying to get money for the city."
    https://www.washingtonian.com/2020/0...-dc-statehood/
    More stupid

"Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks took issue with the size of DC, saying there are a number of cities in Alabama about the same size as DC that donít qualify for statehood"
    https://www.washingtonian.com/2020/0...-dc-statehood/
Alabama doesn't have a city that comes anywhere close to DC in population

"Representative Paul Gosar, DC has no forts"
    https://www.washingtonian.com/2021/0...ongress-today/
Beyond stupid, and DC does have a major naval base

And there are more, some equally inane

One would think if you are in a postion of power and you are arguing against an issue at least you would take the time to know what you are talking about, and Scalise is the number two GOP man in the House

None of this pure democrat partisan bullshit matters on this anyway. It will never get through Senate.

How can it be "partisan bullshit" when it is exactly what they argued, and no it won't get thru the Senate, today, but sets the stage for another attempt down the road, you can't keep telling Americans DC shouldn't be a State cause they don't have any Forts and get away with it forever

It was voted along party lines. Partisan bullshit. That is all democrats know. And keep telling yourself the other bullshit.

I hope you are correct. This is just another example of the Democrats pushing bullshit. If they really wanted the residents to have rights of statehood, then give the residential section of DC back to Maryland.

There's no reason for it to be so big. Just keep the seat of government in DC and everyone can be happy.

Stripping Americans of their rights, regardless if inalienable or unenumerated, is against American ideals

As it stands now there is not enough for a Senate majority to let this go through. And I agree with the rest of what you said. Smart man!

Why do you think the Federal government should be its own state?

Politicians making stupid statements isn't new. OTOH, this is a better argument: "Give the Swamp back to Maryland".

Statehood for DC? Give the swamp back to Maryland
With Washington, D.C., pushing President Joe Biden and Congress to use their control to make the district a state, with two senators and a House member, the conservative FreedomWorks today announced a solution — give the old swamp back to Maryland.

Yellow signs put up around the city by the group proclaim, “Make D.C. Maryland Again.”

“The best, most realistic path to guaranteeing representation for the residents of D.C. includes returning the majority of the District of Columbia back to Maryland,” said FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon.

As part of its “We The People Week” targeting H.R. 1, the Democrat’s controversial election reform package, for defeat, they piggybacked in the anti-statehood campaign in hopes of drawing attention to both local and national efforts to join the city with Maryland as a potential solution.

The district was created from land offered by Maryland and Virginia, though Virginia got its land back. The founders created it as a “federal town,” and eventually, it won the right govern most of itself.

After what the Revolution did during the election it looked like making new states to cement in their power was a bridge too far.

    I guess I was wrong.

It is probably unconstitutional since the national capital is supposed to be a separate district.

Just give the land back to Maryland and then all those people will be citizens of MD and can vote for members of Congress.
