I was just offering a different spin. We talk about the will of the people and one 'side' went 40 years only winning the majority of the Presidential vote one time.

I'm still of the belief that things ebb and flow and that's not going to change.
Things don't ebb and flow like the ocean tides. There are reasons behind the ebb and flow of American voters. It doesn't happen in a vacuum. Surely you can agree with that. American voters social attitudes and beliefs change over the years. If a political party doesn't change as well, they won't win elections.
That's what appears to be happening, imho.
Judge Juan M. Merchan wrote that Trump “appears to take the position that his situation and this case are unique and that the pre-trial publicity will never subside. However, this view does not align with reality.”

It says that we must do something about shitkicker crackers being grossly overrepresented [as a percentage of population] in government.
The popular votes aren't close, but the elections are.

No question. Times change of course but imagine Reagan and Clinton running the same campaigns today that they ran when they did. Neither would get elected now as both parties have changed (to be clear I mean I don't believe either would win their party's nomination).

By ebb and flow I meant the two party's going in and out of power. On a state level we see states where one party dominates but on the national level, whether its Congress or the Presidency, power goes back and forth.

This will become less so, however, because evolving politics become less and less of a factor in the choices.

The Great American Divide is a culture war--us and them--and that doesn't change very quickly.

Ideology isn't the real root--if it makes the other side crazy, I'm for it. That's the dynamic.

This is where we are today.
