One thing that bothers me about fellow liberals is that many of them really don't know anything about firearms but are nonetheless willing to discuss them.
It's the gun - not the individual bullets - that is "big", friend, not so much in size, though the AR 15 is hardly small, but in appearance as a weapon of power and its impressive record in mowing down a crowd of hapless bystanders. This is where the debate is; being a gun specialist gives you no edge in it at all. As for the bullets, if they are big enough to rip holes in people it doesn't much matter that they are comparatively "tiny".

Not all males of course, only some.

Might it be that something is amiss with these guys?
It's an evolutionary trait. Perhaps dead end at that.

I personally believe in the 2nd Amendment but not the private ownership of military style assault rifles.
I have unwilling familiarity with the latter and more willing familiarity with sporting arms.

Firearms reform is just not the first item on my personal progressive agenda..

then you don't truly believe in the 2nd Amendment
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

I think the second amendment was written stupidly.
There should have been no mention of irrelevant militias.
They should have simply stated that American citizens in good standing have the right to bear arms.

Prohibiting specific arms is not inferable from such wording, however, as long as the general principle is being acknowledged.

Since the UK used to control Hong Kong, did they teach you Cantonese?
Most of our restaurants speak Mandarin.
No. We needed to know what Chinese aircraft were likely to do, and they were supposed to communicate in National Language, basically Mandarin. You never saw rabbits before myxamatosis - vicious lot, eating us out of house and home. The shotgun had a bent nail for a firing pin, and worked about one time in three. The beasties used to play rabbit roulette, laughing.

The Second Amendment can be and has been intelligently interpreted as permitting bans on certain "arms". You can't lawfully buy a flame thrower or an atomic bomb. If we had legislators with balls and common sense you couldn't buy an AR-15 either.

anyone who's read the debate minutes, federalist and anti federalist papers, and all the commentary from the ratification era knows that there's nothing 'intelligent' about that interpretation.....

Youre right, there's some restrictions on weapons that can be sold. However, there's no restrictions on weapons you designed and made yourself. You can absolutley own a flame thrower. You can absolutely own a dirty bomb. Etc.

Uh huh. Anyone who speaks in absolutes is likely to be speaking unintelligently. There exists scholarly opinion that the Amendment does not protect modern advanced weapons.

Correction, it doesnt support their unlicensed manufacture. It's not manufactured if you made it yourself.

any opinion AFTER 1792 that treats ANY Amendment in the Bill of Rights as one that can be limited in any way is an aberration of the US Constitution and therefore Null and Void............Marbury
