If police work was bringing great approval, their funding would be unquestioned. When they are bringing highly objectionable performance then the people want to make changes. I don't think the answer is taking funding away. The answer has to be getting the right people to do the right things. Clearly Chauvin did not do the right thing.

Wait a minute. You're the one who said police needed to be paid higher. That's easy enough to say but the hard part is determining where the extra money is going to come from to do that.
Personally, I think police are paid quite well for what they do. People join the armed forces and put their lives on the line for a lot less, you know. I don't think it's a matter of throwing money at the problem. It has to be better training and better screening.
