Some of us are old enough to remember this joke:

It might be called "the Fat Jap Syndrome," in honor of Spiro Agnew's jocular question aboard a campaign plane in 1968, when he observed Baltimore Sun Reporter Gene Oishi asleep in his seat and inquired, "What's the matter with the fat Jap?" What was intended as bluff bonhomie immediately appeared to be racial callousness.

Agnew gave the country a laugh when he referred to a reporter as a fat Jap. Decades before race hustlers acquired today’s power media cacophony over “fat Jap” was so loud it could be heard on Mars. So far, Biden’s media mouthpieces are not screaming “RACISM” because their favorite clown said “Japanese boy.”

On January 20, 1969 Spiro T. Agnew became the 39th vice president of the United States. He was elected with our 37th president, Richard M. Nixon.

Mr. Agnew was the governor of Maryland at the time of his 1968 vice presidential nomination and had developed a reputation as a ‘law and order’ candidate. At the time he was not widely known.

President Trump nailed media pretty good:

but Trump never got the affection that conservative Americans gave to Spiro T. for the way he putdown the media way back when the media was putting ‘UNBIASED’ in Cracker Jack boxes:

This soon changed for a number of reasons including his being an outspoken critic of the news media and others using catch phrases such as ‘nattering nabobs of negativism,’ ‘effete corps of impudent snobs’ and ‘hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history’ to describe them.

He also used some even more rather direct phrases to describe those he didn’t care for which I won’t repeat here but can certainly be categorized at the very least as less than positive.

In 1973, he became the target of an investigation by the United States Attorney’s Office as to allegations of extortion, tax fraud, bribery and conspiracy during his terms in office as Baltimore County Executive, Governor of Maryland and Vice President.

Eventually this criminal investigation led to a plea agreement whereby Mr. Agnew was allowed to plead ‘nolo contendere’ in federal court to a tax charge with the further agreement that he would receive probation and resign as vice president.

The rest as they say is history, and the agreement was effectuated on October 10, 1973 in a much publicized plea and resignation. He became the second vice president in United States history to resign.

The term ‘nolo contendere’ is Latin and means ‘I will not contest it.’ It is also referred to as ‘no contest.’ Common reasons for a nolo contendere plea include issues of possible future civil liability as to a defendant’s actions or a lack of memory. It has the same effect as a guilty plea for purposes of it being a conviction and for sentencing. In federal courts and in Michigan courts, it can only be used with the consent of the judge.

Mr. Agnew died in 1996. He was a very interesting man and there is a wealth of historical information about him on the internet.

The public liked Agnew, while an overwhelming majority of Americans always thought Biden was a joke; first as a senator then as vice president. Laughing at a long-running joke turned into pure hatred after Biden stole the presidential election.

Parenthetically, the Washington Post and the New York Times was not sure they could not remove Nixon so they took batting practice on Agnew. After Agnew resigned print press and television did get Nixon by turning political dirty tricks into a ‘CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS.’

NOTE: China Joe Biden is the personification of constitutional crisis, yet Congress, the Supreme Court, and media mouths rollover for him like he is a loyal American doing his best for the country.

In political science, a constitutional crisis is a problem or conflict in the function of a government that the political constitution or other fundamental governing law is perceived to be unable to resolve. There are several variations to this definition. For instance, one describes it as the crisis that arises out of the failure, or at least a strong risk of failure, of a constitution to perform its central functions. The crisis may arise from a variety of possible causes. For example, a government may want to pass a law contrary to its constitution; the constitution may fail to provide a clear answer for a specific situation; the constitution may be clear but it may be politically infeasible to follow it; the government institutions themselves may falter or fail to live up to what the law prescribes them to be; or officials in the government may justify avoiding dealing with a serious problem based on narrow interpretations of the law. Specific examples include the South African Coloured vote constitutional crisis in the 1950s, the secession of the southern U.S. states in 1860 and 1861, the controversial dismissal of the Australian Federal government in 1975 and the 2007 Ukrainian crisis.

Constitutional crises may arise from conflicts between different branches of government, conflicts between central and local governments, or simply conflicts among various factions within society. In the course of government, the crisis results when one or more of the parties to a political dispute willfully chooses to violate a law of the constitution; or to flout an unwritten constitutional convention; or to dispute the correct, legal interpretation of the violated constitutional law or of the flouted political custom. This was demonstrated by the so-called XYZ Affair, which involved the bribery of French officials by a contingent of American commissioners who were sent to preserve peace between France and the United States. The incident was published in the American press and created a foreign policy crisis, which precipitated the passage of the Alien and Sedition Acts. Opposition to these acts in the form of the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions cited that they violated freedom of speech and exhorted states to refuse their enforcement since they violated the Constitution.

Moreover, if the crisis arises because the constitution is legally ambiguous, the ultimate resolution usually establishes the legal precedent to resolve future crises of constitutional administration. Such was the case in the United States presidential succession of John Tyler, which established that a successor to the presidency assumes the office without any limitation.

Politically, a constitutional crisis can lead to administrative paralysis and eventual collapse of the government, the loss of political legitimacy, or to civil war. A constitutional crisis is distinct from a rebellion, which occurs when political factions outside a government challenge the government's sovereignty, as in a coup d'état or a revolution led by the military or by civilians.

Finally, I always liked Spiro T. because he was an honest crook. For all of Agnew’s faults there was never any doubt concerning his loyalty to this country. My all-time favorite Spiro T. comment is ''If you've seen one slum, you've seen them all.''
The basic test of freedom is perhaps less in what we are free to do than in what we are free not to do. It is the freedom to refrain, withdraw and abstain which makes a totalitarian regime impossible. Eric Hoffer

Default Let's put the game on.

Now keep in mind that for Italians on Sundays, dinner occurs right after mass.
So the time of “Dinner” can be anywhere between noon and four in the afternoon.

What do you do for the rest of the day after Dunch. Dinner and Lunch. Dunch
