Some traffic stops are necessary but many of them are not. Too many of them are about fishing and making money, we could do without those.

Our town cops are pretty smooth operators. They patrol the streets, but I never see them actually writing many tickets anymore. I see them mostly just showing up to traffic accidents and stuff. I never see radar traps anymore here.

I also see them helping drivers with stalled cars and stuff, just for safety reasons.

I woke up the other night about 3 in the morning and noticed I was out of coffee, so I went to the 7 11 down the street to get a cup. A policeman followed me into the parking lot. It was a Black Police officer. He came up to my door window and I rolled down the window. He said, "I just wanted to let you know one of your headlights was out and that your car needs current registration". Then walked back to his squad car and drove away. I didn't even notice that my car's registration went out of date as of the 1st of the month, before the officer reminded me.

I like our hometown cops! They're great!

A Minnesota police officer pulled over Philando Castile for a broken taillight, then fired seven shots at him. A Texas state trooper stopped Sandra Bland for not signaling when she changed lanes. Three days later, she was dead in a jail cell.

According to a Washington Post database, about 11 percent of all fatal shootings by police in 2015 occurred during traffic stops; Black people accounted for a disproportionate share of those deaths.
