BALTIMORE - Of all the charges filed against six Baltimore officers indicted Friday in the death of Freddie Gray, the top count is second-degree depraved heart murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
In Maryland, depraved heart murder is "the killing of another person while acting with an extreme disregard for human life."
John Jay College of Justice Professor Delores Jones-Brown, the author of "Race, Crime and Punishment," told 48 Hours' Crimesider that the charge indicates an "extreme form of recklessness."

The trial is still in progress and the genius crowd here all have a verdict ... I guess getting all the facts is no longer in vogue ... what a pity
What facts haven't been presented? The prosecution schlepped floyds brother to the stand yesterday. He offered NOTHING in the way of facts. This is what the prosecution is reduced to. We have heard expert after expert say floyd didnt die from OD or heart problems but the defense attorney got the last expert to say floyd would be alive if he had just followed directions and gotten into the police car. Reasonable doubt has been established. If there is reasonable doubt the jury MUST acquit.

Floyd was saying "I can't breathe" before anyone laid a hand on him. He supposedly yelled 20 times, "I can't breathe" while being choked by chauvins knee. He had fentynal and methamphetamine in his system and had a bad heart. And the doctor said had floyd gotten in the police car that day he'd probably be alive. I don't need your car or your bridge I have reasonable doubt. Oops.
