I would be in favor of barely lifting off and then immediately dropping right back down, initially.
Analyze, make sure all went as hoped.
Then for the second attempt, go slightly higher and right back down.
Followed by another analysis.
Only then go for more extended flight.
Three times is a charm.

I guess Perseverance rover got so bored waiting for the message it just started snapping pictures around.
Ever seen the movie Rain Man? Yeah he kept snapping pictures everywhere.

It's getting ready!
I'd love to see the code for the controlling AI. There is no way you could "remote control" it from this far away, 20 minute or more delay would crash that thing.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
- -- Aristotle
Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

As to the missiles, that is understandable since it's a matter of national security.

Yeah that is understandable.
There's plenty of source codes for AI on NASA's site: https://code.nasa.gov/
And naturally there's plenty of source codes for drones flying on their own available on the Internet.

There are certainly issues, but compare the standard of living in the 1950s to someone in the lower middle class now.
A big part of the problem, besides enough taxes to cover spending, is that Americans are repeatedly pushed to be consumers. Keep up with the Jones. The "if you don't have a late model car for $50K, then you're a loser" attitude. In short, people are wasting so much of their money on fun stuff that they need to work harder to cover their bills.
Example: Private schools for kids. Both parents work to cover the higher expense.
